It was my honour to celebrate the naming of Brian Mulroney Elementary School in Ottawa.
The new school welcomes nearly 700 students this year and is the first public school in Canada named after the late Rt. Hon. Brian Mulroney, Canada’s 18th Prime Minister, honouring his life, legacy and lasting contributions to our country.
Thank you to Mrs. Mulroney and the entire family for joining us to mark this special occasion. It’s fitting that a new generation of students will learn in a school bearing his name and be inspired by his legacy of public service.

Scott Aitchison’s background as a local mayor made him a natural consensus builder. That made him an unnatural fit in today’s Conservative Party.

Scott has been one of the most persistent, thoughtful and effective MPs in moving a national policy conservation on housing. Regardless of party MPs all come to Ottawa to make a difference, and everyone should applaud what Scott has accomplish.

I have made the difficult decision to resign my seat following the conclusion of the fall parliamentary session. After 30 years of public life, it is time for a new chapter where I will explore new opportunities.
From being elected to Huntsville Town Council and Muskoka District Council at the age of 21, to serving as Mayor of Huntsville and, for the past seven years, as your Member of Parliament, it has been the honour of my lifetime to serve you and represent our community.
Whether it was in the council chambers, or the halls of Ottawa, I worked to build consensus, cut through the bureaucracy, and make life better for the people who placed their trust in me. I carried myself with the same values of the town that raised me: respect, decency, and looking out for your neighbour.
My time as Shadow Housing Minister has allowed me to contribute to a fundamental shift in the national debate on housing. All levels of government have recognized the burden over regulation and excessive taxes and fees place on housing affordability. Our Conservative team can be proud of the work we have done on this file and I know the team will continue this work after my departure.
To the people of Parry Sound–Muskoka who placed their trust in me, and those who I disagreed with but promised passionate representation to, I hope I have made you proud.
I want to thank my incredible staff who have served me and the people of Parry Sound–Muskoka with distinction. None of this would have been possible without you.
To my caucus colleagues and Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, it has been a privilege to serve alongside you. I have been fortunate to meet Canadians from coast-to-coast who are counting on us to champion efforts to make life more affordable for all Canadians. I know you will continue this mission.
Sincerely,
Scott Aitchison, M.P.

Oh wow. This is a big loss, not just for the Conservatives, but for the House as a whole. @ScottAAitchison has been a fantastic champion for housing policy in Canada.

Happy Franco-Ontarian Day! 💚🤍
Today, we celebrate a proud, vibrant Francophonie rooted across Ontario, one that brings us together and strengthen our Canadian identity.

25 years ago today, I was on my way to write my Series 7 exam, one of the U.S. licences required to work in finance. Hard to believe it’s been that long.
My group was writing it at Midtown, and due to a small mixup, I was writing it downtown.
I got there on time. I was extremely nervous.
I got through about three questions when the adjudicator came over the loudspeaker and said that there had been a bomb at the World Trade Centre. Everything was under control and we could keep writing the test.
Two minutes later, we heard a police car in the streets a few levels below, yelling at everybody to get out of the way.
At this point, everybody got their stuff and started to leave as fast as they could. We were only a few level levels up so we headed for the stairs.
When we got to the ground floor, we heard the noise from the second plane hitting the tower and we started to run.
We weren’t far from the office where I had been a summer student the year before and I had just started working full-time so I headed there.
I remember running into a fellow Canadian named Jon Dorfman and we kept moving from 1 NY Plaza, to FDR Drive.
Everyone was helping people along the way.
Everyone was covered in dust and debris.
As we moved up the highway, past the Brooklyn Bridge, we got a clear view of the towers and what remained.
I’ll never forget that moment. Because of what was lost. And because of how little we realized the world would change from that moment on.
My thoughts are with everyone who lost someone that day.
I got to walk home that day. I write this for everyone who didn’t.
Never forget.
**** I bought the attached framed photo when I was a summer student in New York in 2000. It’s been with me ever I’ve lived ever since.
