Wow. It’s almost as if sovereignty becomes dangerous when your territory controls access to one of the world’s most strategically important maritime chokepoints.
I’m sure the closure of Hormuz and the disruption of shipping through Bab al-Mandab have absolutely nothing to do with any of this…
And, purely by coincidence, Spain is heading into an election campaign that officially begins in just over two weeks, with PP and Vox offering an Israel First foreign-policy line…
Hey @grok does any Israeli company have any connection to the technical security of RENFE trains in Spain?

On 10 October I told my readers that EIGHT of my indicators had turned RED 🔴for a war between Ethiopia and Eritrea, and that Ethiopia would move to force its way to the sea within 6 to 9 months.
The 9 has now turned more RED, and it is the loudest one yet, because this one is hardware.
Ethiopia has just taken delivery of 12 x Russian Su-35 fighter jets, a FULL YEAR AHEAD of schedule after Putin personally pushed the first batch through, and it is lining up four x S-400 air defence batteries behind them.
That package is built for one kind of job.
The Su-35 is an air superiority and strike aircraft, the tool you use to WIN and hold the skies over someone else's ground, and the S-400 is the shield you raise to deny those same skies to anyone who tries to answer back.
A country assembles that exact combination when it means to take airspace and keep it, not when it only wants to deter, and you do not pull a fighter fleet forward by a year to park it on a runway.
And Russia moving these jets early is Moscow buying itself a foothold on the African shore of the Red Sea, the same expansion it is already running from the Sahel across to the Horn.
Ethiopia is a nation of more than 120 million people that has been landlocked since 1993, and it pays around $1.5 billion a year to push almost ALL of its trade through a single foreign port in Djibouti.
President @AbiyAhmedAli has called sea access an EXISTENTIAL question, he rebuilt a navy for a country with ZERO coastline at the moment, and the coast he wants is Eritrea's, the port of Assab specifically in the south, which Ethiopia held before Eritrea broke away in 1993.
And the timing explains the hurry.
Every power that could stop him, the United States, Israel, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf, is pinned to the war in the Middle East and bracing for a larger escalation once the American midterms pass on 3 November, while the Red Sea is already in chaos from the Houthis.
Ethiopia reads that distraction as COVER and a significant opportunity, the one open window to seize what it wants while nobody with the weight to stop it is looking at the Horn of Africa.
And this is a front in the same war, because the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb are the artery ALL of these powers are already fighting over, Eritrea (which literally translates to RED SEA) lies right on it, and Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea and Somalia have ALREADY formed up into a bloc against Ethiopia this month, because for Egypt the Nile and the Suez are life and death.
An Ethiopian push into Eritrea opens a THIRD front on that same Red Sea, right beside Yemen, and pulls the Gulf powers straight into it.
The orders of effect run outward from there.
First, a push into Eritrea throws refugees along the Red Sea coast and eventually toward Europe.
Second, the Egypt-led bloc activates and every Gulf state is forced to pick the side it has spent this year trying to avoid.
Third, and this is the one that reaches the rest of the world, the war everyone still calls the Existential War of the Middle East stops being a Middle Eastern war at all and becomes one continuous Red Sea war running from Yemen across to the Horn of Africa, with the shipping, the fuel and the supply chains the world depends on running right through the middle of it.
So my call from 10 October stands, and the hardware only sharpens it, because within six to nine months Ethiopia moves on the Eritrean coast, and those Su-35s fly in anger inside the next year while Addis Ababa reaches for the port in the south.
I will confirm the rest of the indicators over the coming weeks.
The ninth just arrived on a Russian cargo flight.

There is a serious military buildup under way, troop movements, the kind you do not make unless you intend to use them.
The indicators I am tracking are a massive buildup of troops, the mobilization of critical infrastructure, and the mobilization of the WHOLE of government, with a handful of others I will confirm over the next six weeks before I say it without any doubt. Eight have already turned red🔴.
Ethiopia is a country of more than 120 million people and it has been landlocked since 1993, moving almost all of its trade through a single foreign port in Djibouti.
President Ahmed of Ethiopia has called access to the sea an “EXISTENTIAL” question for Ethiopia, he rebuilt a navy for a country with no coastline, and he already signed a port deal in Somaliland that set half the region on fire.
This is a state that has decided it cannot secure its next 100 years as long as it owns no coast of its own, and the coast it wants is Eritrea's, the port of Assab, which previously belonged to Ethiopia.
So why NOW? Because the whole world is looking the other way.
The United States, Iran, Israel, Saudi Arabia and the entire Gulf are locked into the war in Yemen and against Iran, and the Red Sea is already in chaos from the Houthis.
Ethiopia reads that chaos as COVER, the one moment it can grab what it wants while nobody with the power to stop it is paying attention.
And this is a front in the SAME war. The Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb is the artery every one of these powers is fighting over, and Eritrea is right on it.
Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea and Somalia have ALREADY lined up into a bloc against Ethiopia this month, because for Egypt the Nile and the Suez are life and death.
An Ethiopian push into Eritrea opens a THIRD front on that same Red Sea, right next to Yemen and the Houthis, and it drags the Gulf powers straight in.
1. The first order effect for this war that I see is a flood of refugees along the Red Sea coast eventually impacting Europe and beyond.
2. The second is the Egypt-led bloc activating and every Gulf state being forced to pick a side it was trying to avoid.
3. And the third, the one that matters most to the rest of us, is that the “Existential War of the Middle East” stops being a Middle Eastern war at all, it becomes one long Red Sea war running from Yemen across to the Horn of Africa, and the shipping, the fuel and the supply chains the world leans on run right through the middle of it.
6 to 9 months Eriteria will change as will the Horn of Africa.
I will confirm the rest of the indicators over the coming 12 weeks.
More to follow…

This Iran, America and Izzy war was NEVER about the "nuclear" issue, and it was never about politics or personalities, it runs underneath all of that, down to three things my critics fail to understand so I will say it here plainly:
This war cannot end because it is about three things:
1. the US dollar holding its place as the world's reserve currency.
2. It is about the American navy holding the sea lanes that enforce it, and about China and Russia using the Eurasian landmass, with Iran at the centre of it, to move their trade and their energy overland and slip out from under that America naval power altogether.
3. Iran is essentially making the American Naval Supremacy redundant if America leaves things as is. This is the true challenge to the American narrative of "global superpower".
Iran is the hinge of that corridor, which is why Washington cannot allow it to stand as a fully sovereign power, and why the nuclear file was always the cover story for a far bigger fight, the one over whether the American century continues or whether the Eurasian powers finally build their way around it, straight through Iran.
This is a STRUCTURAL war, which is exactly why it does not end the day someone offers Iran a better deal, and if that framing bothers you, you have not been reading me closely, because it is the same thing I have been saying since the first day I went online.
𝗦𝗜𝗚𝗡𝗔𝗟, 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗡𝗢𝗜𝗦𝗘!!
The JCPOA was a nuclear control mechanism "against" Iran...
That deal WAS Iran already compromising on its nuclear "ambitions", accepting caps and inspections in exchange for sanctions relief, and the United States under Trump walked out of it and tore it up anyway in 2018.
So ask the question honestly. If Iran signed THAT deal, held to it, and then saw America abandon it and tear it up regardless, what kind of NEW nuclear deal is Iran supposed to believe in now?
There is ZERO agreement Iran can put on the table that would satisfy what the American Institutions are after, because what America wants goes well past ANY possible deal, all the way to the FULL surrender of the nuclear position, and behind that, of Iran's sovereignty itself.
And Iran will NEVER hand that over, not without fighting to the very end, because it saw what happened to the men who did.
1. In Iraq, Saddam Hussein gave up weapons he did not even have and was hanged.
2. Muammar Gaddafi dismantled his program, shook hands with the West, and was sodomized then killed in a ditch eight years later.
The lesson every sovereign state pulled out of Iraq and Libya's experience is that disarming yourself is the thing that gets you invaded.
Iran has tied its nuclear program to its sovereignty, to its identity, to its research and development, and to its standing as a state that bends to NO ONE, and it treats it as a national treasure.
Asking Iran to "give it up" is the equivalent of Russia demanding the United States shut down NASA.
No serious power does that, under any pressure, at any price.
I get challenged on this constantly, because I do not "fit neatly inside anyone's camp" or world view, and my reading will agree with you one day and inflame you the next.
I read this the way a realist reads it, by power and incentive and revealed preference, and not by the side I am "supposed" to be cheering for.
I am not taking Iran's side here. I am describing what ANY state does when it is ordered to disarm by the same power that just tore up the last disarmament it agreed to.
