📢 New publication from our partners @UAntwerpen "Beyond fossil binders in wood-based products: does a shift towards biobased alternatives yield a more sustainable solution?" A new study explores the environmental potential of three biobased wallboards using epoxidized linseed oil, lignosulfonates and mycelium composites. 🌱 The study finds that: • Biobased wallboards can achieve lower global warming potential and acidification than medium-density fibreboard. • Lignosulfonate and mycelium panels can already compete with or outperform conventional alternatives across several impact categories. • More circular systems showed greater potential for lower environmental impacts. • At the same time, the results highlight the need to consider indirect environmental effects and industrial-scale efficiencies. 🔗 Read the publication: sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

How can local and regional authorities help make energy-efficient behaviour the norm? The Energy Behaviour Forum brings local and regional authorities together to exchange experiences, share good practices and build capacity around energy efficiency. The Forum provides practical tools, training and knowledge to support authorities in developing short-, medium- and long-term strategies that encourage more energy-efficient behaviour. For projects like BIOBUILD, this matters. Reducing energy demand in buildings is not only about developing better materials and technologies, it is also about how buildings are designed, used and managed. By connecting innovation, policy and behavioural change, we can help accelerate the transition towards more energy-efficient and sustainable buildings. 🏠🌱 🔎 Explore the #EnergyBehaviourForum: energy-behaviour-forum.ec.eu… @Energy4Europe #EnergyEfficiency #SustainableBuildings #EnergyBehaviour #BuiltEnvironment #EUResearch

Did you know? 🇪🇺 The EU's evolving chemicals and bioeconomy policy is actively shaping how adhesives like the one we're developing reach the market. Regulation for SUSBOARD is part of the design process from the beginning of the project, through our Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) approach. Our partner Institut für Holztechnologie Dresden gemeinnützige GmbH (IHD) is responsible for steps 1–3 of the SSbD assessment including hazard evaluation and the analysis of health and environmental impacts during production and use of the wood-based materials. susboard.eu/innovations/#ssb… 💡 Learn about the role of EU polcy framework in bio-based adhesives: susboard.eu/bio-based-adhesi… #DidYouKnow #EUPolicy #GreenDeal #SafeAndSustainableByDesign

🌱 New Conference presentation available! At the Paper Bioeconomy conference in Graz, project partner @BOKUvienna presented some great BIOBUILD progress: Sebastian Mayr showed how an enzyme called laccase transforms lignosulfonates into a bio-based binder for wood particle boards — tested against EN 312, scaled to pilot production, and now demonstrated in demo houses in Uppsala, Sweden and Lleida, Spain. Lab chemistry → construction material → up to 20% less building energy use. That's circular bioeconomy in action. 📄 Presentation on Zenodo: zenodo.org/records/20732773 #Bioeconomy #Lignin #SustainableConstruction #HorizonEurope
