SCARLET HOLLOW is a psychological horror visual novel created by the developers that make Slay The Princess. It’s extensive branching narrative mixed with trait based choices allows each play-through to be unique and replay-able. Scarlet Hollow is still in early access but has five chapters out of seven ready for you to play. Because this each chapter is more like an episode, you can absolutely play Scarlet Hollow before the story is complete. Scarlet Hollow had me hooked like no other visual novel has before. I played this game and read through my first play-through in three nights over nine hours just reading before bed. I had such a hard time putting the game down. There is so much depth to this small yet mysterious Appalachian, North Carolina town. Every where you turn there is a new creepy character, mythological creatures, or you are finding yourself in the middle of some unexpected chaos. The story twists and turns in so many ways and has so many possible outcomes keeping the story fresh and exciting at all times. Not everyone is who they seem in Scarlet Hollow. Scarlet Hollow also has friendship and relationship dynamics so you can romance a few of the NPCs in your play-through. These relationships also change how the town views you and impacts your choices through out the game. Different friendship and romance options add another layer of replay-ability to this game. Reading has always been something I’ve struggled with. I’ve found that visual novels help my brain focus on reading because it’s a more immersive experience than just looking at words on a page. While I really wish Scarlet Hollow had voice acting to improve accessibility, I understand why they made the decision not to. There is so much dialogue, adding voice acting would probably extend the release date by many years. There really is THAT much story to explore. I also think the price is a bit high for an early access visual novel so I hope they do not raise the price at full release. I did snag it on Steam while it was on sale and recommend to look out for a sale before purchasing as well. I absolutely trust that Black Tabby Games will drop an absolutely epic finale to wrap up Scarlet Hollow. ⭐️ RATING: 10/10 @blacktabbygames
