For me, one of the most interesting parts of building a fintech company is discovering that solving one problem often brings you face-to-face with an even bigger one. The good thing is that I have come to like problems and finding solutions to them.
At WeWire, we’ve spent years building the infrastructure that helps businesses move money across borders. Along the way, we’ve processed over $3 billion in transactions and powered more than 4,000 businesses. Cool numbers, right?
But the closer you get to how businesses actually operate, the more you realise that getting money from one place to another is only part of the equation. Sometimes, the bigger challenge is having the capital to get the transaction started in the first place.
A business can have a willing buyer, a ready supplier and goods waiting to move, yet still be unable to fulfil the opportunity because financing isn’t available when it’s needed.
That got us thinking: could we build a better connection between businesses with viable trade opportunities and people willing to finance them?
That question set us on the path to Trade Tokenisation.
The journey has taken us beyond our familiar territory. We’ve had to think through how physical goods, digital tokens, treasury operations and investor participation can work together in one product. It has meant close collaboration across business, product, design, engineering, compliance and legal, as well as engaging with the Securities and Exchange Commission Ghana through its Virtual Asset Sandbox.
The result is a feature that allows businesses seeking financing to structure trade deals as digital tokens that eligible participants can subscribe to. The underlying goods are held in a bonded warehouse managed by WeWire, connecting participation in a digital deal to the physical trade behind it.
This is an important step in how we think about WeWire’s role in the financial ecosystem. We’re not only building better ways to move money; we’re exploring the infrastructure that helps businesses access opportunities, put capital to work and move trade forward.
Today, WeWire Invest is live. This is phase one. Full deal closure, richer controls and, eventually, a secondary market are on the way.
To the team who built this, and to SEC Ghana for creating space to innovate responsibly: thank you.
We’ve shared more of the thinking, challenges and decisions behind this journey in our latest story.

It’s time to bring the subway to Mississauga. As Mayor, I’ll fight to extend Line 2 west and finally give our city the rapid transit connection it deserves.

sending money across borders is still painfully slow in most parts of the world.
wire transfers that take 3–5 days. fees you only see after the fact. support that ghosts you mid-transfer.
founders building globally shouldn't have to deal with this.
that's the whole reason we built @usewewire.

Dolly Parton, who grew up as one of 12 children of an illiterate sharecropper, never forgot her roots when she became a star. Her songs and her philanthropy made her beloved: Her Imagination Library has distributed 300 million books to children. She has died at 80, an amazing woman. RIP, brave Dolly. nytimes.com/2026/08/25/arts/…

WeWire has been admitted into Ghana SEC’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Sandbox, one of a select group of companies chosen to pilot the next wave of digital asset products under Act 1154.🎊🎉
Our focus is the tokenisation of trade finance. We’re turning trade instruments into digital assets that settle in real time, so capital and goods no longer stall at borders.
This builds on where we’ve already been. WeWire previously took part in the Bank of Ghana’s Regulatory Sandbox, developing compliant payment and stablecoin rails in close step with regulators.
Two sandboxes in, our conviction remains steady. Fintech built in Africa can meet the highest regulatory standards while solving the challenges closest to home.🚀🚀

Familiarity feels safe. But when it comes to investing, it can quietly increase your risk. 📈🌍
From favouring your local market to putting too much of your savings in your employer’s stock, familiarity bias can leave investors heavily concentrated in what they already know. And when that market, company, or sector takes a hit, your investments can feel the impact all at once.
In this week's StayWired, we explore why investors gravitate toward familiar assets, how home bias can limit diversification, and why spreading investments across countries and sectors can help build a more resilient portfolio.
