Spent a little time optimizing a hot route on a Ruby Roda + SQLite JSON API app
15 db queries: 1 refactored, 3 new indexes & all now use prepared statements
DB time was ~5ms per req, now ~500us per req
Most of the req time was in DB, reqs now are under 1 ms
Roda + SQLite FTW!

The official @medusajs 2.0 release is next week and Workflows is a big part of what makes 2.0 flexible and reliable.
Really like this component back from the beta release of Workflows - does a great job of explaining how to custom durable executions in Medusa.

I totally grok how something like @Sonos struggles to explain their products.
“We make speakers that don’t require you to have your phone tethered to. “
That concept is so unbelievably difficult for 99 percent of people to comprehend. #99PercentDumb
Super sad that Bram has passed. Thinking back, he created the main conduit of which I have been able to exist.
Such a thoughtful thread on who he was.#NeverForget

In the early 90s, programmer Bram Moolenaar was frustrated with limitations of the vi text editor.
So he created his own open source fork called Vim! ✍️

In which @_delete44 and I did a lot of soul searching to build a browser extension that is extensible, yet feels native to the websites it’s embedded in 🤔💭💡✨
We’re proud of the result, and given it’s open source we figured we might as well share our learnings!
our engineers @Phacks and @_delete44 recount the technical journey of our [not-so-new] Chrome browser extension. Check it out! orbit.love/blog/the-orbit-br…

Met Gala as monitoring and observability solutions, a 🧵.
Kim Kardashian as Datadog.
Requires investment to get into. Takes active upkeep. Generally worth it, but there are gaps (and the occasional malfunction). Not an easy situation to get out of.

If you're a "senior" on a team & think you'll have to do 50% of the work yourself, my advice is to do _none_ of the work yourself. Instead, spend your time helping the "juniors" do the work. You'll find the overall work will go much faster because everybody becomes better faster.
This is what running looks like when it comes to deploying code. Not fast but, consistent.
It takes highly motivated and skilled folks to pull this off
In 2022, Stripe deployed its core payments APIs 5,978 times (16.4 times a day on average) ...
API reliability is now consistently in excess of 99.999%, and, during the peak week of Black Friday and Cyber Monday , exceeded six nines (that is, 99.9999%, — the equivalent of around 600 milliseconds of unavailability.
(It takes about 300 milliseconds for a human to blink.)

Why should building @Deliveroo be more complicated than @Nike?
The fundamental commerce logic is the same; you offer carts, accept payments, and process orders.
Yet, only conventional ecommerce is supported by current popular platforms.
These platforms were built in times where moving your business online was a competitive advantage. Boy, has this changed.
As the digital space matures, businesses are pushed to innovate, and new product categories emerge.
This has spawned the need for a more extensible commerce platform and a set of developer tools.
Tools you can use to build any commerce application without hacky workarounds or shoehorning features to meet your requirements.
What is needed is an SDK for commerce.
