Dull as a mantelel-ean as well. Complete miscast by the RSC deep state
Rylance is so dull as a Shakespearean. Always fishing for the novel line reading, swims against the current of every scene. Somehow manages to be hammy as he underplays, makes it all about himself.

Thank god we can find and intercept lost hikers as they mistakenly run away from rescue in dense forest!
Purdue University's IDEAS Lab built an autonomous drone that tracks runners through dense forests completely without GPS or cloud networks. By running 3D LiDAR mapping and obstacle-avoidance AI entirely on-chip, it can weave under tree canopies and predict target movement through blind spots in real time. Massive implications for next-gen search & rescue and edge AI.

He gained 11 million votes from round one out of the indomitable human spirit.
Lula won by more than 4 million votes. Hard to say the vote extension brought that much in a short time. He gained 11 million votes from round 1 out of…where? Literally no one endorsed him. Everyone from the centre went to Flavio. Even good chunks of the LEFT backed him too. Lula was all alone and completely cornered. This is like Columbia where Abelardo was expected to win comfortably by like 7-8 with all the key endorsements in his favor then he barely squeaks it by like 0.8%. Except the results actually flipped in the case of Brazil.

Surely this is just they were both capped out in those respective areas and reverted a bit cos junior bolsanaro isnt actually his papa
The swing to Lula was larger in municipalities with more irreligious or evangelical residents, while municipalities with more Catholics swung towards Bolsonaro

Skills issue
We’re honestly supposed to believe Brazil swung nearly 10 points to the Left since the first round just a few weeks ago lol Even if you gave all of Avante's votes to Lula, that's still a 7 point shift in barely three weeks!

Does Atlanticism/NATO split left/right in the greens? I'm somewhat doubtful but have no real evidence bar vibes- will have to solidify a stance that works on Ukraine as well as middle east
Replying to @AnsellEade
The key questions will be over the economy, monarchy, Atlanticism. The Green Right will oppose the policy consequences of an “ecosocialist party” – committing to common ownership of big businesses and banks, a republic, nonalignment by closing all the US bases and leaving NATO.

"We are going to increase the tax free allowance... but just for pensioners"
Exclusive: The chancellor will use his budget this week to protect pensioners and those saving for their retirement as he announces plans to shield nearly one million people from paying income tax John Healey is expected to confirm on Wednesday that the full state pension will rise by £489 to £13,036 - equivalent to 3.9% However, the rise will push about one million people on low incomes who rely on the state pension above the £12,570 personal allowance threshold, meaning they would be dragged into paying income tax To retain the principle that the state pension is not taxable, Healey is expected to announce a rise in the tax-free allowance for low-income pensioners to £13,036. The move will cost taxpayers £200m a year by 2030 It will rise in line with increases in the state pension over the course of this parliament. However, millions of pensioners with higher incomes - such as those who have private pensions - will still pay income tax The Times has also been told that the chancellor has decided not to reduce the tax-free pension lump sum. Pension savers can take 25 per cent of their pension tax-free from the age of 55 up to a maximum of £268,275 There were suggestions that Healey could reduce the tax-free amount to £100,000, but he has chosen to retain the current level The moves to protect pensioners and those saving for their retirement come after Andy Burnham announced plans to end the pensions triple lock - under which the state pension rises in line with inflation, wages or 2.5 per cent - in 2030 to help fund social care thetimes.com/article/47291ec…

At the least you need to sell a narrative of its necessity- deadlock in the house of commons. Boris Johnson did that very successfully but the circumstances almost impossible to replicate
British Columbia a good data point for the “don’t call a snap election” arguments with clear parallels to UK dynamics. NDP call election with poll lead, when opponents on right are in turmoil. Conditions look ideal and yet voters don’t look kindly on it and Conservatives win big.

Anyone who’s had this will tell you the same. It’s important to understand: terror of transgender people as sex offenders is much the same thing as black-clad lads in the street shouting against migrants as sex offenders. They are different facets of the same reactionary project.

The wallet inspector not returning with that electoral reform he indicated he might support then?
"He promised change, he promised something very different from Keir Starmer, & if he doesn't deliver eventually something very different from Keir Starmer then he's going to be in trouble" @Neal_Compass on Andy Burnham & next weeks budget

We are further away from the brexit vote than the Blair government was from the referendum.
Nigel Farage responds to Andy Burnham's call for an 'honest discussion' about a return to the EU's free movement rules 'This is a total betrayal of Brexit Britain and Burnham's Makerfield pitch. 'He is also deluded to say immigration was different when we were members of the EU. 'We will fight this dishonesty'

Great, we are going to buy military planes on PCP loans again.
“John Healey to announce billions more for defence at budget” …with a PFI look-alike scheme The idea being it won’t be official government debt.. In fact it will be at risk national debt - only Lab politicians think otherwise And no cuts to welfare thetimes.com/article/08c22e8…

It's been a rough few months for my "Andy Burnham is a bottlejob loser" take but all the fundamentals are still there.

This surprised me as a factoid but they didn't do any poll after 2024 until June the following year so this makes sense.
Second poll to give Labour an 8-point lead this weekend. Pollster @Ipsos says it's the largest Labour lead they've found this Parliament. Keiran Pedley says: "Whilst the headline figures do show a striking change, they confirm a pattern we have been seeing in the underlying data for some time. "The Labour Party under Andy Burnham is resurgent, consolidating voters on the left behind them."

Fun fact i learned checking this factoid- this is almost exactly what the polling was in mid October 2024.

When it comes down to it what difference does that make?
Replying to @SyntheticBeef
that's just synthesis of existing ideas

There is a difference between a political coalition build around what can achieve majority consensus and the individuals involved consistently lying about their beliefs. Which is what is being advocated for on purely careerist grounds here.
I understand why this is off putting. But this is a real thought exercise. I want you to think of a political position you strongly believe in. Could be anything. I have conservative and liberal followers. But now, assume for the exercise your belief has 20% popularity.

The first is a coherent basis for political action- many of those central to moral gains did it out of political expediency. The second turns any political institution into a funhouse mirror of 2nd guessing.

I know it's an argument that is never really deployed honestly and is really just people masking their own ideology as sensible but part of why it's poisonous is it encourages people to believe any coalition can and should be built around *them* so long as they lie correctly.

Somehow "this was a public good left to rot for private profit" is an argument *for* the redevelopment.
The grass field that these two pillocks just "saved" was an old, overgrown rugby pitch next to the site where Bath RFC Juniors train. It's been left to rot for years. A Lidl would have brought discounted groceries to thousands of hard-up families. These people are sick.
