The new year loses much of its meaning when you have a time machine. But Claudia is a traditionalist. She periodically goes back to the start of her favorite year whenever she wants to make a vow about the person she intends to become whenever the future finally arrives.

After spending almost a decade at startups, Iโ€™ve realized that org design is an underrated skill. A well thought out org structure is integral to revenue growth, hiring, and retention. Org design says more about your company strategy than a strategy doc ever can.

One of the hardest things to teach in software engineering: it's literally all made up, functions are just GOTOs, the computer doesn't care what anything is called, almost all the "structure" in our code is only there to make something convenient for another human to comprehend

As a software developer, you may be called upon to perform some of these tasks in your career. How well a CS degree prepares you for these tasks (and whether it even should prepare you for these) is left as an exercise to the reader. ๐Ÿงต 1/

Years from now, they will not remember what they got or what they gave. They will not remember dinner or that tiff about the dishes. They will remember sprawling on the couch after everyone else went to bed, turning to each other and saying, โ€˜This was a good one.โ€™ And so it was.

A team is a system. No one part of the system is responsible for its success. Success comes only from the system as a whole.

I built a visualisation of inter region APIs hosted in AWS to help illustrate where best to host web applications. Has infra in every AWS region ๐Ÿ˜… aws-api-latency.wolfe.id.au/ #AWS #serverless You can def see how well connected us-* regions are.

I find that in my work role, I'm in a continuous state of leaning forward. The only way that I don't fall on my face is by continuously adjusting and readjusting and compensating. This what leadership feels like to me. It's not a bad thing, but if I stay still, I will faceplant.
