BIG NEWS:
I can now share publicly that I have made a deal to publish my new book BATMAN: THE MAKING OF AN AMERICAN MYTH with @OxUniPress 🤩
I’m so grateful for all the help I’ve received from @VonCleland and @sarahkkhalil
Saw Clayface in theater last night. I liked it! Edit felt a little rushed at times, leaving very little time to sit with what we were witnessing (especially in the first act). But a cool origin story with novel elements for the genre.
Let me say, I’m so humbled by the incredible talents I have the honor of working with @OUPAcademic. The editorial team is second to none. So supportive, so sharp, and they bring out the very best in my writing. I couldn’t do this without them!
Folks, I’m working my way through the edits on the Batman manuscript right now and tightening up the last loose ends and let me tell you… this book is turning out to be REAL GOOD. I’m so excited for y’all to get to read it in the new year! #batman
It was a great panel and well attended! Let’s stay in touch.
I had a delightful time at the biennial conference @faithandhistory. Esp enjoyed learning from @bsb1945 on Charles Schulz and @jtcochran on J. Edwin Orr & giving my paper on J.M. Boice being featured in @TIME and Eternity magazines in 1969.
This last Clayface trailer is a lesson in the lost art of movie teasers. Not showing your big reveal in teaser isn’t just about avoiding spoilers. It shows the studio’s confidence in the final product that they don’t have to give away the best parts for attention.
DC Studios has released the final Clayface trailer, which does not, thankfully, reveal his final form, which star Tom Rhys Harries said is "f**king sick." bit.ly/4dQb52f
It’s Batman Day today! My new book on the cultural history of America’s favorite dark knight crusader is coming from @OxUniPress next Fall. In the meantime, check out this piece comparing Burton’ and Nolan’s takes on Batman!! thebulwark.com/p/batman-and-…
The Tilly Norwood “interviews” this week are just as mindless as you would guess. When we see art or hear music that inspires us, our natural first question is, “Who made this?” We want to know more about the minds that affect us.
I first played a demo for the opening hangar level of this game on my monthly PlayStation Underground discs and it blew my mind! The first two MGS games are still some of my favorite gaming experiences ever.

Hardly her most important accomplishment, but Gloria Steinem successfully pressured DC Comics to reverse Wonder Woman's transformation into a powerless, Emma Peel-inspired figure, and helped establish WW as a feminist icon in her own right. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cultur…
This program gave two young parents in grad school the resources we needed to help teach our first daughter read. What a saint Dolly was!
Years ago, over 10 now, I checked into a hotel in California for research on my dissertation. The lady at the counter asked me what I do. I decided no one knew me so I’d be bold. I’m a writer, I replied. I felt like the biggest fake.
Anyway, today I turned in my second book.
The amount of material and information you collect as a non-fiction author, only to be able to put a fraction of it in the eventual book, can be truly staggering.
We weren’t even through Thursday night previews and major press was dropping Spider-Man in headlines on my Apple News app. Come on guys!
Roll Tide. We had an otherwise nice TSA agent in San Diego drag us for being from Alabama. I forgive him. He clearly didn’t know what he was talking about. 😂
I didn’t know what to expect at an 8:30 evening panel @Comic_Con, but we had a great turn out with great questions! Got to meet the legend Brad Wright (COMIC BOOK NATION) and always great to work with my friend @ComicsScholar. What a great experience!!
One of Nolan’s very best in a staggering catalog.
Christopher Nolan on re-releasing #ThePrestige and if he can imagine reuniting with Christian Bale for a fifth collaboration:
"Oh, of course. He’s one of the great actors of his generation, and I’ve had tremendous experiences with him. I’m thrilled that they’re going to re-release 'The Prestige' because it’s one of his most underrated performances. I’m just really excited to bring it to fresh audiences. We’re actually going to do 70 millimeter blow-ups. Wally Pfister shot it anamorphically on 35 millimeter, and he did an incredible job. I screened a 35 mil print the other day to check it, and his photography is just extraordinary. Nathan Crowley’s production design is amazing as well. So it’s going to look absolutely beautiful blown up to 70 millimeter, and we’re going to start that process in the next few weeks."

The Hades scene really was incredible. Made me think that perhaps we need more reflective fiction in our time that asks us to consider what the dead might make of the choices of the living.
Christopher Nolan’s star-studded The Odyssey is full of phenomenal performances, but its most surprising comes from Elliot Page. In limited screen time, Page’s Sinon becomes the soul of the mythic epic, writes @bentravis.
