Our new OA paper is out here: doi.org/10.1111/gcb.16974 We present an approach for combining tracking data and remote-sensed threat maps to quantify year-round individual risk exposure. We use @_BTO Cuckoo tracking data to reveal seasonal and flyway differences in risk exposure.

New OA paper: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/… 🗺️ We mapped 16 anthropogenic threats to migratory birds across the Afro-Palaearctic. 🕊️ We used these to create composite species-specific threat scores for >100 bird sp and related these to the PECBMS population trends. 1/2

📉 We find links between population trend and exposure to non-breeding range 'direct mortality' threats (built infrastructure, disturbance, hunting etc.) Methodsy details in below @IBIS_journal presentation: xitter.cf/buchanding/status/1376… 2/2
1 Long-distance 🦅migrants are declining. Understanding drivers of declines (what, how, where, when) is necessary to reverse trends. Migrants may be exposed to numerous anthropogenic threats throughout annual cycle, effects of which may be interactive/cumulative #BOU2021 #Break1

6 Results point to the potential for effects of anthropogenic direct mortality threats to bring about population declines, and highlight importance of non-breeding season threats. Macro, full-season approaches can be useful when quantifying drivers of declines #BOU2021 #Break1

5 We related population trends to risk scores, body size and migratory distance. Initial results reinforce established negative population trends 📉 for longer-distance migrants, and reveal a consistent negative effect of non-breeding range direct mortality risks #BOU2021 #Break1
