Tomorrow?
No cherry-picking. No special treatment.
The door is open. This time, it’s meant for coming in, not walking out.
There is so much to do together to face global challenges🇪🇺🇬🇧
#Brexit
Fascinating
LiDAR Lens now covers all of England and Wales. Search any of about 24,000 scheduled monuments, slide the lens over the ground, and switch between relief. Tap What's here? for nearby records and photos. It's free, needs no login, and works on a phone. lidarlens.sarsen.org
Great articulation
I failed 21 SAS selection.
One hundred and twenty men started. Four finished. I was not one of them.
I do not tell that story to be humble. I tell it because of what happened next, which nobody ever asks about.
I went home. I was 19 years old and I had failed at the one thing I had told everyone I was going to do. There is a particular silence that follows that. Friends are kind. Family are careful. And you sit in your childhood bedroom and understand that the failure is now a fact about you.
Six months later I went back and did the whole thing again.
Passed the second time.
Here is what I actually learned, and it is not what people expect. It was not about grit. It was not about wanting it more. It was that the first attempt was not wasted, it was the reconnaissance. I knew where the ground broke you. I knew what the third day felt like. I was not braver the second time, I was better informed.
Most people treat a failure as a verdict.
It is data.
The only real failure is the one you refuse to go back and look at.

Today at the G20 Foreign Ministers meeting, I set out the UK’s commitment to multilateralism.
We will always stand up for Britain’s values and interests in the world.
In the plenary, I told the Russian Foreign Minister that he should have the courage to tell Putin that Russia will not win this war.
We all need someone to believe in us sometimes
Great story
Before Hollywood, I was living in a van in Hawaii and waiting tables at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. One day, the incredible Rae Dawn Chong walked into the restaurant, and naturally, I went up to her table and said, “Hey, you’re a movie star! What are you doing here?”
She asked if I could act, and I said, “Fuck yeah, put me in your movie!”
She asked for my phone number. The only problem was I didn’t have one. So I gave her my buddy Mike’s number instead. A couple days later, Mike casually mentions, “Oh, by the way, someone called you.” ARE YOU KIDDING ME, MIKE?!
I called her back, and sure enough, she was serious. I drove over to pick up the script, went back to Mike’s house, and read all 120 pages three times in a row. First script I’d ever read. My character's name was Devon, and I remember thinking, “Sweet! I could totally play a Devon!”
I showed up to the audition with every line and inflection mapped out in pencil. Rae told me I could act and offered me the part. I asked if we were shooting in Hawaii. Nope. Los Angeles.
I had about $60 to my name, a bag of clothes, and some rollerblades.
Then Rae told me they'd fly me out. And I remember thinking right then and there, my life just changed forever. I'm going to be an actor.
That little movie was Cursed Part 3, a low-budget horror comedy that opened the door to Hollywood for me.
I'll forever be grateful to Rae for taking a chance on a kid working at a shrimp restaurant. Everybody starts somewhere, and this is where it all began for me.
Great simile
Brexit was like walking out of your home for good on a warm, sunny day with no coat, no food and no supplies because you assumed the weather would never change.
Then the storms came: Covid, Ukraine, Iran/Hormuz, climate extremes
A decade later, Britain has discovered what happens when a country strips away its resilience.
🔥 The IFS says the 2020s are on course to be the worst decade for household income growth since records began in 1950.
Typical working-age household incomes are forecast to FALL by another £1,050 by 2028-29.
Britain cannot rebate its way out of this.

Friends,
I've been contacted by the heads of Ukrainian hospitals and state institutions asking for help in obtaining generators.
They are very difficult to source these days, and you know how critical the need for them is in Ukraine.
If anyone knows how we could obtain these generators, or has contacts with suppliers, donors, or organizations that might be able to assist, I would be extremely grateful.

It is fantastic to watch and authentic as, i have no doubt, @EdConwaySky would have challenged him were his responses incorrect or misleading
Great of Ed to have that final slide and both declare its presence at Dans request - great honesty
Beautifully clear
Fair play to @dantomlinsonmp. Can't imagine many ministers being a) having the guts to do this live and b) being so on top of their brief they do it well.
Gravity returns to the debate
Finally
🚨 This is HUGE.
The Times reports that Britain is already holding talks with the EU about a potential return to freedom of movement and other options for much closer alignment.
The options that will eventually be put to the British public are being discussed with Brussels now, to establish what both sides could agree.
“The conversation is happening.”
The 2024 red lines of no Single Market, no customs union, no freedom of movement only apply to this Parliament.
What comes next is now being worked through.
Burnham meets EU leaders on 20 November. He says he wants Britain to rejoin the EU in his lifetime. And tonight we learn officials are already discussing the possible routes with Brussels.
This is no longer a hypothetical debate about whether Britain might one day change course.
🎉 The process of deciding how far Britain moves back towards Europe has finally begun. 🇬🇧🇪🇺
Wow
This was just posted over on Facebook by @GeorgeTakei . #AdAstra Walter - and Pavel 🖖
My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man. Just last month, on Sept. 14, he turned 90, on the same day Brad and I celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary. I will always treasure that he and I shared that date.
Walter was more than Chekov. He was a writer, a teacher, a thoughtful man, and a loyal friend. To the fans who loved him for so many years, thank you. He loved you too. Rest well, my dear friend. Keep navigating a steady course.
– George
