The government has released its draft mathematics curriculum for the Leaving Certificate, the main qualification that Irish teenagers leave secondary school with. It is astonishingly bad. For @_fitzwilliam, we have written about why:

Beatriz is great, and on the job market. If you need someone good on metrics who you can trust for work on economic research, data analysis, and generally writing and thinking clearly about complex ideas related to economics, send her a DM.

1/ Started watching Suits recently… Louis Litt (Suits: season 2, episode 3, 31:25): Barbinger File, done. Scofield Supoena, done. Johnson Strategy, written. Every single one of your assignments was completed by me last night. What else do we have left to do?

2/ Uh, filing? Filing, doc review, spell check. Grunt work? Yes, grunt work. Because that's your job.

3/ Let it be known that I can do your work faster and better than any one of you without shedding a tear or breaking a sweat but I don't because writing briefs and recommending arguments is how you learn. Sub in AI for Louis—you should still do the work to learn the fundamentals

Where has the sycophantic AI gone? Claude Sonnet 4 roasted a blog post draft I wrote lol

Autocorrect operates on symbols. Predictive text operates on words. LLMs operate on tokens. But taste operates on truth, human truth. Seeing a lot more "Made by Human" and "No AI Used" tags on content. It is important to understand this not as Luddism, but as a core aspect of creating good things. Using AI has so many advantages, but it isn't novel nor unique. We are the crafters and with all the hype we shouldn't forget or undervalue that. 🔗 Below

Strange we still live in an age of postal paranoia: I know something is coming but I don’t know when

Beneath Dublin Airport lies a secret. You may have walked through it. You may have checked in your bags there. But it was never meant for passengers. It was meant for trains. 🚇 This is the 100 year story of how Dublin never got a metro:

1/ How well do AI models handle Irish grammar? I tested 7 leading LLMs on 1,100+ items covering everything from basic plurals to complex verb forms. The results? Surprisingly impressive! 🧵

10/ Next steps: testing with reasoning models, open-source and grok, exploring whether explicit grammatical rules improve performance, and using tools to enrich knowledge. There's something poetic about using cutting-edge tech to preserve one of Europe's oldest living languages.
