A year ago, the #HighSeasTreaty opened to state signatures. 92 countries have signed up, but only 8 have ratified it. At this year’s #UNGA, we need to go further, faster and move from promises to action 🌊🌍⏰

Have you ever wondered what the long-term effects of tagging fishes are? We've collated peer-reviewed literature and anecdotal information to answer this question: doi.org/10.1111/faf.12861

Check out this collaborative #shark work. With 1867m we recorded the deepest dive of a porbeagle. Covering latitudes from 30°N to 76°N they encountered temperature differences of 20°C. More collaborative efforts are needed to study and manage this transboundary species!

Revival? Driving along #Lofoten during midnight sun to be strategically positioned to pick up our first #baskingshark tag we deployed 365 days ago as part of the #SharksontheMove project. Exciting! Will the tag come up again north of the polar circle?
Against the odds we managed to recover tag 2 after drifting for 12 days in the stormy North Sea thanks to the Norwegian Coast Guards. Sweet success on the third attempt after bad weather and early terminated cruises #SharksontheMove

What a finish @fsbi2023 with sessions on food 🕸️, ONE Health and 🐠connectivity with amazing talks about the tropic ecology of deep water 🦈, thiamine deficiency, the importance of parasites and the value of multi-method approaches to study connectivity patterns. Thanks #FSBI2023!

Great keynote by Bronwyn Gillanders @BronGillanders in the @SeaUnicorn2020 session on #marine #connectivity at the #FSBI2023 conference. All you ever wanted to know about connectivity variation and partial migration in marine fish, including during their after life as fish&chips
Day 2 @fsbi2023 highlighted successes and challenges in fisheries management and habitat restoration. We learned about the importance of nursery areas, otoliths and density dependence in salmon and project co-design with anglers and the public to find and manage (new) 🐠 species

Great first session @fsbi2023 on understanding future 🐟distributions. Featuring the importance of shifting baselines, considering DO for metabolic rate, the value of microchemistry and telemetry to understanding fish ecology and movement in a changing climate. Excited for day 2!
