I’m thinking about @BernieSanders. For decades, he took seriously the things people say to each other at the kitchen table. I work hard and still can’t afford to get sick. My rent went up again. I want my children to have an easier life than mine. He carried those conversations into rooms where the people having them rarely get a seat. What moves me is that Bernie gets to see a generation he helped bring into politics win elections of their own. And I’m grateful to @hasanthehun for making room for so many young people to argue, ask questions, and see how much of their own lives is at stake in politics. Congratulations to @AbdulElSayed in Michigan, who will become the first Muslim U.S. senator, and to @jamestalarico, the first Democrat elected to the U.S. Senate from Texas since 1988. Congratulations to @troyjackson207 in Maine, @SherrodBrown in Ohio, @AnnieAndrewsMD in South Carolina, @RoyCooperNC in North Carolina, @turek4iowa in Iowa, @Hamilton4Kansas in Kansas, @ossoff in Georgia, and @chrispappasnh in New Hampshire. Here in New York, congratulations to @bradlander, @claireforny, and @darializaforny, and to @AOC on her reelection. There’s a particular joy in watching people organise in the neighborhoods they call home and seeing those same neighbors send them to Washington. Congratulations to @melatkirosco in Colorado, @DonavanMI13 in Michigan, @chrisrabb in Pennsylvania, and @HamawyForNJ in New Jersey, and to @RashidaTlaib on her reelection. And congratulations to our governors-elect @KeishaBottoms in Georgia, @GinaHinojosaTX in Texas, @amyactonoh in Ohio, @robsandia in Iowa, and @teamfordnv in Nevada. To everyone who knocked on a door, got it shut in their face, and went back out the next weekend, I hope you’re taking a moment to feel what you helped make happen.
