Whenever the Feds talk about storing health records or encryption keys, remember that the NSA can't even protect their best tools.
Out of curiosity, this morning I used Claude to build a Trello-style module for @web2project with draggable cards, cross card dependencies, activity log, and the like
It was 15 min of back and forth to get the first wireframes, up to a full hour to made the implementation decisions and get to building.
20 min later had the first version. It respected the existing RBAC permissions in the first pass. Found some issues in the core project audit logs, those are resolved. Found an issue in the core event pub/sub model, that's shelved for now.
Made little UI tweaks throughout the day. Took a nap. Revised the flows. Added ical and search support. Generated screenshots.
From concept to release: 10 hours.
Driving home this morning, I heard a commercial for Firefox and they said the line:
"We have AI built in which you can turn off at any time if it gets too artificial"
Amusing how "artificial" picked up the bad connotation..
I was in Texas for less than 18 hours but I managed to have TexMex and (airport) Salt Lick..
I also saved myself ~$2500 by taking a detour and making a small 15 min solar repair instead of paying the technician. Absolutely ridiculous.
Multiple missions accomplished.
"I can’t get any hired dev to be significantly productive with AI, compared to what I can do myself or other founders who code their own products."
There's a subtle aspect in here that most people are missing:
In order for a hired dev to translate an idea into a product, the founder has to express the concept. At minimum, that's putting things into words but will often include a variety of mock ups, sketches, vague notions, and concrete requirements
Throughout that expression, there's a ton of refinement, question and answer, experimentation, and exploration that goes on. All of that requires some back and forth..
Unfortunately, while that is good & necesssary, it's also the problem..
Once you realize that the back and forth exists, you realize a founder can just as easily have that conversation with an AI. Then you realize that this whole process is going on in a span of minutes so you're staying in-context, not getting interrupted by life, and you could be having multiple of these conversations going on at once while the AI is pulling relevant references, competitors, research, etc
Take all of that together and I'm 0% surprised you can move faster solo with AI than playing telephone through a developer
Watching people in tech groups
- complain about not being able to find jobs
- while others in the same group boast about outsourcing things to third world countries to save money
- while no one points out the obvious connection is.. amazing.
And not a good "amazing"
I've been trying to tell software developers this for 10+ years..
You preferred code as your medium. Cool, fine.. but even then you knew that sometimes UI or docs were better medium at times.
Now code is off the table. What do you do now?
New post: In 2015 I wrote "So you want to build an App.." Today you can vibe code a prototype in a weekend. Some of that advice is now flat wrong. Most of it isn't. Here's what changed and what didn't. caseysoftware.com/blog/so-yo…
"Odds are, if they're weird around you. They're weird around everyone."
As a dude with 25+ years in tech & a BS in electrical engingeering before that, I will say emphaticially: yes
Some guys are just weird. It's not about you.
Most of the time, it's what made them an expert
So much of the advice from women to women about "working in male-dominated environments" backfires
Most of it amounts to having a chip on your shoulder and being defensive instead of just treating men like people
Maybe this stuff was relevant years ago, but in 2026 the average man in the average workplace is not shocked that women exist
If an engineer is weird around you, odds are he's weird around everyone (that's how many of them are!)
Priming yourself to take everything not just personally but AS sexism is a recipe for disaster and a self-fulfilling prophecy
My theory on why Hawaiian shirts are so popular here:
First, you have beautiful flowers, plants, etc.
Second, dinosaurs are real and roaming around loose.
Therefore, Hawaiian shirts are simply camouflage.
Whoa.
I'm a big advocate of "the first offer will be the best" around buyouts, layoffs, etc.. they're going to hit their number eventually, you can't just keep your head down.
Good luck to my friends & colleagues over there.
I hope things work out as you'd like.
BREAKING: Microsoft, $MSFT, is offering buyouts to 60,000 workers as part of the company’s efforts to cut costs amid AI adoption, per Bloomberg.
Personnel on select teams in the US, Canada, India, and the UK at a vice president level and below will be eligible.
This reflects ~27% of Microsoft's total workforce.
*light rephrasing here, not much..
The other day, my kid:
Is there really another Avengers movie coming?
Me: *sigh* Yes but.. a lot has happened since Endgame.
Kid: Like what?
M: Well, it turns out there are a lot of universes
K: Okay.. ?
M: And they all have Infinity Stones
K: OH NO!?
M: Don't worry, there's an agency that collected them to keep them safe
K: But that woman told Hulk that they had to come back to where they were or everyone would die!
M: Yes, that doesn't matter now. The agency turned them into paperweights
K: They didn't really matter?
M: Nope. Also there was a secret race of immortals living on Earth who had the sole job of fighting Titans if they showed up
K: Did any show up?
M: Yes, one.. Thanos
K: But they weren't in that fight!
M: Yeah.
M: Oh and Wanda went evil
K: Huh?
M: Yes, after Endgame, she held an entire town hostage and brainwashed some kids to make them think they were her kids
K: But she's a good guy! And didn't have kids!
M: Yeah..
K: But she was okay after that, right?
M: Well she went crazy and went into other universes and killed Reed Richards and Professor X
K: Did they have to kill her?
M: I don't know, I didn't watch that movie
M: Oh and the guy that played Black Panther died. Like the actor
K: I liked him!
M: Yes, he did a great job
K: Is there a new Black Panther?
M: Never mind
M: OH! And Falcon is fully Captain America now.
K: Cool. Who is Falcon then?
M: Sam is both, he still has his wings
K: What?
M: And he fights the President
K: What?
M: Do you remember way back in that first Hulk movie where that scientist was helping Bruce and the blood dripped on his head?
K: Not really
M: Well that scientist is back and he did something and made the President into the Hulk
K: That guy was hiding this whole time?
M: I guess so, I haven't seen that movie either. Oh, and this Hulk is red.
K: So who are they fighting in this Avengers?
M: Doctor Doom
K: That metal mask guy from the Fantastic Four?
M: Yes! But this is a different Fantastic Four
K: Do they team up with the Avengers?
M: Do you mean Avengers with an "S" or a "Z"?
K: What?
M: There are two groups of Avengers now. There the ones you saw who lived through Endgame though I'm not sure who's active. There's also another group called Avengers but with a Z
K: That's dumb. Who is in that Avengers?
M: The one with the Z?
K: ARG. YES
M: Well, there's Bucky and they hire a new Captain America
K: Wait, not Sam?
M: No, not Sam. Sorry, this guy isn't really Cap now.. the government hired him to be Cap, then he murders someone and they fire him
K: They didn't put him in jail. How is he an Avenger!?
M: And there's a new Black Widow
K: Who is this one?
M: It's Natasha's sister
K: She's a Black Widow too?
M: Yes, the Black Widows come from a school where they train girls to be assassins. She there are a lot of them
M: OH and guess who Doctor Doom is!
K: He's that angry doctor guy
M: No, remember how Tony sacrificed himself to save universe? Well he's back
K: But he's dead
M: Yes
K: So he fights Doctor Doom too?
M: No...
K: ...
M: Try again..
K: Doctor Doom captures Tony and makes him build stuff?
M: Good idea, but it's worse
K: Worse?
M: Worse.
K: Tony is helping Doctor Doom on purpose!?
M: Worse.
K: ...
M: Tony is Doctor Doom
K: WHAT
My current idea is to start vibe coding direct competitors to the people boasting..
If saving money is the highest ideal, I bet I can beat them.
