This is so incredibly dumb
If there were one possible option that would be WORSE than just playing the damn game in the broom closet this is it
12:30pm on the east coast on a weekday is a slap in the face to every GSV fan and player that exists
And the potential for them to be playing in a building scarcely more full than that 3500 number in the broom closet is quite high given that, you know, people are gainfully employed at that time
Why not just have it at 3:30am at this rate
Again this could all have been avoided if they had just planned for this a few weeks ago
Organizational malfeasance of the highest order
After a weekend of nonstop frantic discussions and negotiation, Game 6 of the WNBA Finals will be played Thursday at 12:30 pm at 17,000-seat State Farm Arena in Atlanta, sources told ESPN.
The Atlanta Hawks-Cleveland Cavaliers game that night will move back to 8 pm to accommodate the doubleheader, just as the Hawks did for Game 4. This allows a potential Game 7 to remain scheduled for Halloween at Chase Center in San Francisco.
All three Finals games in Atlanta have required hurried adjustments to the schedule at State Farm Arena. It took collective efforts from the WNBA, NBA, the Hawks, State Farm Arena, Dream, Valkyries and broadcast partners to figure out the best course of action again.
By moving the game earlier in the day, the WNBA avoided a scenario where a potential championship game was played inside the Dream’s home arena, the 3,500 seat Gateway Center.
The other option under strong consideration was moving Game 6 to an open date at State Farm Arena on Friday and Game 7 to an open date at Chase Center on Tuesday, November 3.
If I were GSV, who play in the Pacific time zone, I would be throwing things
WNBA Finals Game 6 will be played Thursday at 12:30 p.m. ET at State Farm Arena, per @ramonashelburne.
I don't think she's old enough to be a true GM candidate for Indy
But if you want to hire an assistant GM
Here's your girl

I understand why everyone in the universe is picking USC to win the Big 10 and Juju to win POTY in the conference, I get it I get it
But man do I not agree
USC has all the talent in the universe with Juju, Jazzy, and Saniyah - but they all are essentially clones of each other, ball dominant wings who are very good at creating off the dribble
One of them (I'm guessing Jazzy?) is gonna have to run the offense and, I don't know how that works
Meanwhile you've got a great freshman forward in Sara Okeke, who is, I say again, a freshman, and then I guess Fagan would be your other starter? Sus
You would need a really good coach to balance all of this out and that is something USC does not have in Gottlieb - great recruiter obviously, but coach? Jury is out
Meanwhile over in Michigan you've got a truly battle tested team over there that is well constructed and has great vets in Olivia Olson and Syla Swords, and of course you've got Iowa who finished 2nd in the conference behind the National Champs, only lost Hannah Stuelke and is replacing her with an awesome freshman of their own, and is adding a 1st Team All SEC player in Dani Carnegie to wreck shop
Those are two well constructed, well balanced teams that are battle tested and have clearly defined roles
USC is talented. They could be great! But there is a ton of redundancy on that team and no well defined structure and I'm just gonna have to see it
They would not be my pick to win the conference.
Blakes or Edwards in the SEC? USC, Michigan or Iowa in the Big Ten? From the ACC to the WCC, we predict the champions and player of the year favorites for all 32 leagues.

Like let's just say I would have been a lot more scared if USC had gotten Kate Harpring to pull up than Saniyah - a LOT a lot
In fact I would have been a lot more scared if Harpring had decided to pull up to basically ANY of the national power schools - USC, the other USC, UConn, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas, any number of other places - basically just hand them the trophy if she lands there because she's basically CC 2.0 and any school that has anything at all to put next to her is an instant title favorite
Fortunately for us all she picked the school that drove a dump truck full of money up to her house and will never be able to afford to put a real team around her
Still probably gonna take that team to at least one Final Four at some point based on her sheer aura alone
Aaaaaagggggghhhh this just underlines how much this whole situation could have been avoided if there was even ONE competent person in that Atlanta FO
Renee Montgomery too busy doing TV appearances to do her actual job
Replying to @ramonashelburne
I’ve heard from several NBA executives about this situation today. The general sentiment is that NBA games can be moved, but it’s extremely difficult two days in advance. There’s employees to schedule, tickets to sell, travel and player health to consider. A few weeks ago, it would have been a lot easier to move a game to Cleveland or from Thursday to Friday (creating back-to-backs for both teams). But last minute is very challenging.
This is an absolute, complete, and utter train wreck of a disasterclass in basic franchise management
There are a billion reasons why the WNBA, or any other league, releases its playoff dates weeks and weeks in advance of the playoffs even beginning and this is right at the top of the list - so the franchises can deal with any potential venue conflict
Remember how we had to wait a week from the semis ending until the finals started since both GSV and Atlanta swept their opponents and everyone was like, why don't we just start the finals now? This is why
The fact that this was an issue solved at the 11th hour for games 3 and 4 is bad enough, but now here we are and game 6 is 72 hours away and we have no idea where it is going to be played? Actually unbelievable
And here's the thing
Considering the home court advantage Atlanta had in game 3 and 4, where it was loud as a jet engine in that big building
If they go into that small building without the same home court advantage and lose, either to lose the series right there or to go back to Balhalla and lose there, Atlanta fans (and the team itself) will complain until the day they die that this blunder cost them the championship
And you know what?
They'll be 100% right
Dream spokesperson on where Game 6 of the Finals in Atlanta will be played, via @alexaphilippou:
"We are waiting to hear from the league if any changes can be made to allow us to play in State Farm Arena. If not, the game will be played in Gateway Center Arena."
Gateway Center Arena's capacity is around 3,500, while State Farm Arena's is 17,000.
Zero percent chance the Valks say yes to this
In fact if I were the Valks I would laugh in their faces if they even asked
There is a lot of complaining happening about the All WNBA selections from... certain segments
Most of those complaints are just hot air in my opinion
However I do think one group has a semi-legit case and that is the GSV fans
I say semi-legit because they didn't really have a player that had a case statistically, and obviously it's a regular season award so you can't really take into consideration what has happened in the playoffs
And the coaching job Cheryl did in the regular season was really good - remember Minny was supposed to be middle of the pack and they finished #1, while GSV was always supposed to be good
So if I were a GSV fan I wouldn't bitch about the lack of individual accolades and would instead say, hey our team of misfits ran thru all your All WNBA players all the way to the finals, in which we are now tied
Trust me, as a fan of a team with a lot of accolade winners, I would trade places with GSV in an instant
The basketball literacy level of CC haters is in the toilet
Which is not surprising
Because if they were actually basketball literate
They would not be CC haters
Bruh I really think if his name were Arch Banning he would be lucky if he were quarterbacking Texas State
National Freshman of the Year race is going to be Absolute Cinema this year
Names on the list
Kate Harpring (UNC)
Saniyah Hall (USC)
McKenna Woliczko (Iowa)
Olivia Vukosa (UConn)
Sara Okeke (USC)
All 5 of these ladies are going to be incredible and I have no clue who is going to win this thing
GSV almost vomited all over themselves but eventually get the win
Cannot emphasize enough how important this one was because it puts Balhalla back in play
Zero percent chance GSV wins this thing outside of that arena
