What happens when interfaces disappear?
Agents don’t just abstract how things get done — they abstract who does them.
I started thinking deeply about this while building Sanctum AI and now at @a16zcrypto, I’m seeing founders start to wrestle with it too — especially as agents become more prevalent in crypto systems.

Awesome opportunity. @a16zfrontier Research Team is top tier.
We're now accepting applications for research interns at @a16zfrontier, for summer '27 in NYC! Application deadline is Nov 20th. You'd be working with me @skominers @SuccinctJT @ittaia @PGarimidi @jneu_net @ErtemNusretTas, as well as other interns, visitors, and our advisors (such as @danboneh).
Our interests are broader than ever---ambitious undergrads with a keen grasp of emerging technologies, grad students looking to transition to building and entrepreneurship, as well as PhD students pursuing a more traditional academic career.
Research areas of interest include AI and machine learning, agentic commerce, cryptography, security, distributed computing, hardware design, economics (micro, macro, and empirical), energy, material science, biology, incentives, quantitative finance, market and mechanism design, foundations of computing, and pure mathematics.

This is important. Great write-up from my colleagues @meigga & @MicheleKorver on what’s being built to solve onchain KYC and what it’ll take for institutions to scale onchain.
One of the core challenges that traditional financial institutions face when growing adoption of their crypto-related products has been the ability to reach KYCed customers who want to purchase these products. However, onchain KYC itself has not fully been solved.
I did a deep dive of current onchain KYC solutions, along with corresponding regulatory frameworks, alongside my @a16zcrypto partner @MicheleKorver. We also discuss the forthcoming Know Your Agent (KYA) landscape and emerging solutions.

AI is getting better at solving hard math problems, especially given recent drops. But what does that mean for the cryptography that protects everything from private messages to healthcare to banking and crypto wallets?
Stanford cryptographer Dan Boneh, with @eddylazzarin, @SuccinctJT, @liz_harkavy, and @smc90, makes sense of the warnings sounded recently. They cover:
- what’s fact vs. assumption
- what’s new and what risks cryptographers have long prepared for
- where quantum computing doesn't (and does) fit
- opportunities for builders
Highlights:
00:37 – What sparked the most recent debate about AI and cryptography
01:35 – Signal vs. noise: What the math does and doesn’t tell us
05:29 – Why cryptography depends on open problems
09:25 – Why the stakes go beyond blockchains
10:43 – How AI could strengthen confidence in cryptography
13:50 – Considerations for users and institutions
20:10 – Where AI and quantum threats overlap
22:32 – Building systems that can change cryptographic methods
23:59 – Hash-based versus lattice-based cryptography
33:07 – Opportunities for builders, and better security tools
38:14 – What comes next if there were a cryptographic break?

Crypto is at a pivotal moment.
As Congress debates landmark market structure legislation, Marc Andreessen and Chris Dixon discuss the decisions that could shape where the next generation of financial infrastructure is built, and whether the United States remains the global leader in crypto innovation:

Morpho Midnight is live.
This is our most ambitious step yet, introducing what onchain finance was missing: giving the users the ability to set their rates and terms.
Midnight opens up many possibilities for fintechs, institutions, and credit desks alike, offering a level of customization, predictability and control that has never been possible before onchain.
This new protocol brings us closer to building the open credit network for the world, and bringing the $200 trillion global credit market onchain. It enables new kinds of markets, which attract new assets and new distributors. Those attract new curators, and new curators bring in even more loans, creating a flywheel that drive onchain credit forward.
Let’s fly 🦋
TradFi isn’t adopting DeFi.
It’s adopting the parts of blockchain that improve settlement, distribution, and capital efficiency, and reshaping them around institutional requirements.
That's not a bad thing. It's a deliberate architectural choice and it creates two distinct opportunities for builders: partnering with institutions to scale proven infrastructure, or continuing to build open networks where the next generation of financial primitives are created.
Institutional infrastructure brings scale, capital, and distribution.
Open networks remain the industry’s primary source of experimentation and innovation. The permissioned layer is often downstream of the open one.
At the industry level, we need both. At the company level, most teams should pick one.
Different customers. Different products. Different GTM motions.
One nuance:
Institutional infrastructure and open networks aren’t competing futures.
What connects them is the infrastructure underneath.
The application layer may look different. The rails are increasingly shared.

No longer just retail.
Korea is becoming one of the more interesting institutional blockchain markets to watch. Major banks, card networks, and consumer platforms are already building stablecoin and RWA infrastructure. Ahead of regulatory clarity, not after it.
By the time the framework clears, the important choices will already have been made. They're actively choosing partners now.
Great piece by @sungmo_apac16z
We’re at that point in the cycle where we’re forgetting what the whole point was to begin with.
The pendulum has now swung too far.

The CLARITY Act has now passed out of the Senate Banking Committee with bipartisan backing and moves to a full Senate vote - a historic moment for crypto entrepreneurs and American consumers.
Crypto is not a red or blue issue. It is about whether the next generation of financial and internet infrastructure gets built in the United States.
Thank you to @SenatorTimScott and @SenLummis for your leadership on the committee, to @BankingGOP, @Sen_Alsobrooks, and @RubenGallego for their support, and to all of the staff who have worked tirelessly to get to this point.
It’s time to pass CLARITY.
