It may seem funny but this is serious stuff. Scammers have come up with something newβ¦.and recently, weβve had at least 4 Clay County residents fall victim to this losing over $60k in total.
Theyβre calling or FaceTiming victims, pretending to be from a local bank saying your account has fraud activity. Theyβll ask you to withdraw money so they can put it into a new account and βprotectβ it; from there theyβll ask you drive to a grocery store, buy a box of cereal and place to the money into the cereal boxβ¦ then meet up with someone for the transaction.
Scammers have been urging victims to stay on the phone during the entire process and to not tell anybody.
DO NOT FALL FOR THIS!
If you get a suspicious call, feel like youβve been a victim of fraud or have any questions about scams - please call us immediately at 904-264-6512.

Back in August 2026, Cole Daughtryβs girlfriend at the time was looking through photos and videos on her phone from February and found something disturbing involving her dog, Nina.
Videos recorded showed Daughtry torturing her dog several times, including Ninaβ snout taped shut, legs taped together and Daughtry was seen strangling her dog. Nina ultimately passed away.
Daughty had previously told his former girlfriend that Nina had died from natural causes, and he buried her while she wasnβt home. His former girlfriend confronted him and then notified law enforcement.
Daughtry was charged with and has since pled guilty to one count of aggravated animal cruelty; he pled to the statutory maximum of 5 years in prison at the first pretrial hearing.
βTo call this case disturbing is simply an understatement and thereβs no excuse for this kind of cruelty,β Sheriff Michelle Cook said. βIβm grateful to our detectives who worked on this case and our partners at the State Attorneyβs Office in holding this defendant accountable.β

After a detailed and thorough investigation by our Guardianship Task Force, Inez Laraine Sullivan is behind bars for the exploitation of a disabled adult.
On August 17, 2026, detectives with our task force received information regarding a Ward who lost over $100,000 to their temporary Guardian. Our victim had been diagnosed with multiple health issues and was unable to independently manage their own assets. After their rights were restored, they couldnβt access their money and they discovered all of it had been depleted.
Investigative efforts revealed for over seven years, Sullivan made wire transfers from the victimβs account to her own personal account. She also wrote herself checks that drained the victimβs account and made debit card transactions.
This is exactly why this task force was created. A vulnerable member of our community had their livelihood entrusted to the hands of someone who was supposed to care of them. Instead, they were taken advantage of.
The Clay County Sheriffβs Office, the Clay County Clerkβs of Courtβs Office and all our partners will continue to identify and hold those accountable who exploit vulnerable individuals. Weβre here to protect our community and make sure the bad actors wonβt get away with this type of exploitation.

The Clay County Sheriffβs Office has arrested a 36-year-old Fleming Island man for seven counts of knowingly possessing and/or intentionally viewing child sexual abuse material.
After a thorough child exploitation investigation was conducted by our Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, with assistance from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) and the North Florida INTERCEPT Task Force, a search warrant was served on 9/29/26 at a residence on Blackhawk Ct. in Fleming Island. The
occupants of the residence exited and were detained without incident. As a result of the investigation, probable cause was developed to arrest one of the occupants, Robert Rahn III.
It should be noted that Rahn III previously worked as a behavioral health assistant at Middleburg High School from August 2021 to February 2022 and volunteered to assist the football team. We also have reason to believe he coached or volunteered for youth football teams in the Nassau County and Tallahassee areas.
Rahn was booked into the Clay County Jail, however the investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information that might be of assistance in this investigation is encouraged to contact Detective Lunsford at [email protected] or by phone at 904-264-6512. You can also submit a tip through the SaferWatch App or by calling First Coast Crime Stoppers at **TIPS.
