GNP+ with @floriako and @cedricnini host a session on 7 Oct titled: "The Future of AIDS response in the MENA region starts NOW!"
"Through treatment as prevention when PLHIV get to U=U, we have the promise of what ARVs can do. We can be hopeful of a generation free of HIV. We can dream that it is possible to end AIDS.
In 2015, countries came together and developed the SDG's. One of the global goals, Goal 3, is the one on global health.
One of the indicators is "ending AIDS as a public health threat". With the guidance of UNAIDS, we are all working towards ending AIDS by 2030.
We are in the phase where we are developing frameworks for getting to 2030, and what the future will look like by 2030.
If we get to the goal in ending AIDS in 2030, what will that look like for PLHIV? Are we sure that regions like the MENA region who is currently let behind, will they be at the same level as the rest of the world?
We are reaching the world of HIV exceptionalism - we saw how due to COVID, HIV went to the back. In 2021, all the resources for HIV reduced by 6%, the lowest it has ever been since 2010."

Achieving Inclusive Governance: Learning from the HIV response:
"All of the battles haven’t been won. Without communities at the centre, the Global Fund would not have the results we are seeing. An essential element of success is funding: community leadership and engagement is no more than empty promises unless it’s backed up with adequate resources. I am deeply concerned about the erosion of the principles we have fought for; all of the years of progress, if we’re not careful, could be jeopardised. Communities are the heart and soul of Global Fund governance, and we must protect that”
