Not a Messi fan at all, but context matters. At 19, Messi scored his first career hat-trick against Real Madrid in a 3-3 Clasico (March 2007) while going up against Sergio Ramos and that Madrid backline. Those were physical, elite defenders who played the game differently. Getting limited by Cucurella yesterday is a different level of challenge
Yโall are just attacking Yamal for no reason. Lionel Messi was never as good as Lamine Yamal at 19.
If it were 19-year-old Messi who faced Cucurella yesterday, he would switch from the wing to midfield immediately. Una dey underrate Cucurellaโs chewing-gum marking ability shaa.
17-year-old Yamal was better than 17-year-old Messi. 18-year-old Yamal was better than 18-year-old Messi, and 19-year-old Yamal is also far better than 19-year-old Messi.
Eye test, trophies, dribbling, goals, assists. Thereโs nothing in football that 19-year-old Messi has over 19-year-old Yamal. Letโs be serious for once.

I just came across an info perez wont be attending the ballon dor ceremony
Honestly? Itโs classic Florentino.
The club is ending the two year boycott and sending players (Mbappรฉ is already in London, plus others like Cucurella, and some club reps). But Pรฉrez himself is staying away, according to recent reports citing Mario Cortegana. Thatโs the detail that matters.
After the 2024 mess (Vinรญcius finishing behind Rodri), he pulled the whole delegation at the last minute, publicly trashed the voting system and UEFAโs involvement, and basically declared the Ballon dโOr irrelevant to Madrid.
Then they stayed away in 2025 too. Now that Mbappรฉ is one of the genuine contenders and relations with UEFA have cooled a bit over the Super League stuff, the club is suddenly fine with attending again just not the president.
It looks like a hedge. If Mbappe wins, the players can celebrate and the trophy still comes home under his watch. If it doesnโt, he doesnโt have to sit there, smile, and pretend heโs over the last snub. Heโs never been the type to go to an event where Madrid isnโt the clear center of attention or where he thinks the club has been disrespected.
Is it a bit petty? Yeah. Presidents of clubs this size usually show up to back their nominated players, especially when the award is this big. The previous full boycotts already came across as sulky more than principled (the voting quirks exist every year, but they only become a crisis when Madrid loses). Skipping personally while letting the players go softens it slightly, but it still feels like the same ego driven stance
The award matters when it suits Madrid, and heโs not interested in the optics if it doesnโt.
The good part is that the players are going as well.

Football fans have made individual brilliance look more important than actually understanding football.
A player can complete 10 dribbles and still make the wrong decision when it matters.
Give me a player who makes the RIGHT decision consistently over one who just produces highlights.
Football is more than skills. ๐ง โฝ

Unpopular opinion: being the most talented player in a team doesn't automatically make you the most important player.
Some players create the magic. Others make the entire system work.
Football fans praise the first type more, but coaches often lose sleep over the second.
Who understands football better? ๐

Let's settle something.
Who had the BIGGER impact on yesterday's El Clรกsico?
Kylian Mbappรฉ โ the two-goal match winner.
Jude Bellingham โ the engine behind Madrid's decisive moments.
Josรฉ Mourinho โ the tactical mastermind.
No diplomatic answers. ๐

Just that he doesnโt get rattled when the opposition fans tries to provoke him
He doesnโt shout racism up and down
He won the Euros as the best player
He won a World Cup
Heโs the youngest to score in El clasico
Vini fit tear วCL at that age
Yamal has started playing like Vinicius
- He holds the ball when heโs supposed to release
- He complains to refs about fouls
- He dives when thereโs no foul
- He tells fan to chant after winning a corner kick
- He dribbles to impress, not to beat his man
- He shoot when heโs supposed to pass
At least Vinicius turned up in big games, this guy never does

Whenever we lose, you all suddenly remember that Lamine has a girlfriend. He didnโt even posting on Instagram before the game. Yes, he had a poor performance yesterday, and you can criticize him for that, but leave his private life out of football. Criticize his performance.
