i didn't realize my love language was slack emojis until i had to work in microsoft teams. there are 0 custom emojis allowed but there IS an official microsoft sticker of a hammerhead shark in a business suit hanging his head in shame, with the caption "we got sued"

If you want reliable software, light oncall duty, and a swift resolution to any deploy problems, you know as well as I do how to get it:
* smaller, more frequent changes
* a tight feedback loop
* get changes out *fast*
* instrument and observe
* devs own their code & deploys

Liebe @DB_Bahn,

Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Andi Owen received $1.29 million in bonuses in 2022 and $1.12 million in 2021. Furthermore, the fiscal year for her company isn’t over yet and bonuses have not been determined or handed out yet, including hers.

gRPC is great for self-controlled APIs. I‘d advise against trying to use it for web though. Gets too messy.
On gRPC being very handy for local-only APIs
...and a little bit of networking magic behind iximiuz Labs 🧙♂️
This weekend I was working on a fancy daemon that performs periodic checks: is a container running, was an image built, has a Pod crashed?
The daemon was supposed to have two main clients: a helper CLI and another local daemon... So, I needed to solve an IPC problem.
Given the other architectural requirements (see the next tweet), none of the Linux-native IPC means were a viable choice. But writing yet another HTTP client/server boilerplate just didn't feel like the right thing to do either - even OpenAPI code generation didn't make me feel better about the task.
So, I decided to give gRPC a try. And it turned out to be a very handy tool for my* use case!
*apparently not only my - containerd does something similar :)
