Sharp & fun new post from @cgarfin about the eye-boggling web project @ArtButSports. Who knew that sports photography rhymes with #arthistory? And hey wait, are sports part of #culture? Serious question, with practical effects. What do you think? sloverlinett.com/news-notes/…

Do you follow @ArtButSports? I wrote about why it's so great, and how it deftly weaves together two worlds that have a lot in common: sloverlinett.com/news-notes/…. Would love to hear what you think!

He’s going to get away with it, isn’t he
Such a fantastic essay by @OrahMark (she’s also a wise and supportive writing teacher I’ve had the great fortune of working with recently)

An important & insightful look into the realities of L.A. visual artists, many of whom don't make a livable wage through their art and struggle with providing basic necessities for themselves while under the burden of debt (cc: @SloverLinett)

So thrilled that the film I had the fortune of working on years ago is making its PBS premiere tonight! Check out Joe Papp in Five Acts 9ET/8C (or on the PBS app), and know I was the one bringing water to all those stars being interviewed to.pbs.org/3Ps1D7H @JoePappFilm

Apparently that’s the French name. Le shrug 🤷‍♂️
Fully-funded writing programs are so important - accumulated student debt weighs on most MFA grads for years and years. I signed the petition Purdue College of Liberal Arts: Save the Creative Writing Program at Purdue chng.it/xh6bKSZD via @Change
Can’t stop thinking about Power of the Dog. It’s really a masterpiece of filmmaking, the kind I used to study frame by frame to unlock their secrets
I had the honor of working with Brother Mike and miss his warmth and passion. If you want to support youth mentors (educators & artists working with youth) in Chicago, join me in helping the Brother Mike Fundraiser secure.givelively.org/donate…

Just discovering the writing of Judy Budnitz. Wow
Alternating between Sherwood Anderson and Brian Evenson stories. Winesburg’s a cozy little spot in hell in my head
Amazing thread on libraries, budget priorities & their effects on information sharing, caretaking of knowledge systems, open access, philanthropic thumbs-on-scales, to name a few things here (cc @mimosaishere & @10ch if you haven’t seen this)

no more guns in movies challenge
Now I want to see all film credits in a circle, all union demands, all open, collectively signed letters (though the Harper’s letter would have to have been two half circles ‘cause “both sides” - or maybe an ouroboros? )
In Japan's Edo Period (1603-1868), when impoverished peasants finally couldn't take it anymore and decided to revolt, they would sign their list of demands with all their names in a big circle. The had specific reasons for doing this... 1/
