There is no "cloud", there is only SOMEONE ELSE'S COMPUTER. This is still a true statement when we're talking about GPUs.

You don’t announce this the day of the election unless you know Israel is an albatross around your neck It’s the right move of course, insane that we’ve been handing a wealthy foreign country money for this long

The biggest problem the pro-life movement faces in the Post-Roe World is they have to work to make abortion low status and to do that they'll have to call some women mean names and maybe criticize their behavior, which they absolutely will not do.
Trump gave the Pro-Life movement exactly what it asked for (overturning Roe and sending abortion back to the states) and the Pro-Life movement will never forgive him for it

This is another election cycle where several states have abortion rights referendums on ballot. I have seen almost zero coverage from Pro Life Inc. No get out the vote efforts. No vans and buses to take people to the polls. Do they even care, really?

Christians must discard the poisonous idea that it’s somehow evil to defend their faith, family, or way of life Western Christian civilization is worth defending, and if it falls what comes next will not be “secular” on “neutral” It will mean rule by your enemies
Muslims have a plan to make America a Muslim nation. Marxists have a plan to make America a Marxist nation. Secular Progressives have a plan to make America a Secular Progressive nation. … but Christians seem to always have a plan to keep Christianity from further influencing our nation by discipling people into either: 1) Political apathy (“God is sovereign, back off”, “we don’t get political, just do evangelism”) 2) Political ambiguity (“Jesus isn’t a Republican or Democrat, neither Right nor Left” = primary application of gospel to culture) If continued, this will have very predictable (and disastrous) results in coming years, and a few conversations with pastors in deep blue cities / states trying to build churches, pastor people, and raise Christian families will help you realize it.

The fact that I am so old that this is not just "unclassified" but also "in a museum" is pretty hard to process.

Whatever Patrick Stewart’s personal politics were, conservatives love him. Why? Because he was a great actor who didn’t make his personal politics the main thing. He made his craft the main thing. Wil Wheaton is despised because he’s a perpetual cauldron of hatred who lives every moment to make sure you know how much he despises you if you don’t vote the way he does. When he dies, very few people will feel anything.
Wil Wheaton loses his mind at White House advisor Stephen Miller, when Miller posted he was saddened by Patrick Stewart's death: “Stephen Miller, on behalf of Star Trek, and everyone who knew and loved him, keep my Captain’s name out of your f–king Nazi mouth. He despised you, and everything you stand for.” Why do these people try to gatekeep who's allowed to be fans?

Open-source "codes of conduct" are cancer and need to be retired; I deeply regret championing them. The inevitable outcome is an unproductive mob controlling projects through intimidation. Given enough time, it pushes away people who would contribute patches. Eventually, all that remains is an unproductive military-police class playing social status games.

The dirty little secret to SpaceX’s success was never that they dispensed with all the crusty senior engineers at NASA and legacy aerospace in favor of hot shot 24 year olds. It was that they hired every single one of those crusty old senior engineers and dispensed with the broken managerial culture in big corporate aerospace. They got where they are by transplanting Prime talent into a Founder corporate stucture.

"Imagine being a professionally trained manager, trained at a top management school, working for a rocket launch company, competing with SpaceX." This actually happened When I was at Boeing in California, Boeing laid off all the rocket engineers in California to replace them with new people (who had no idea what they were doing) for 20-30% less per head in Alabama I talked to one of the guys who was getting laid off, he was an old dude, he had worked on the DC-X which was the reusable rocket program McDonnell Douglas had in the 90s His next job: consultant for SpaceX Boeing dumped him on the side of the road to save 0.25*his salary and SpaceX picked him up in 30 seconds flat

State media is normalizing third world election fraud
If you go to bed on election night and don't know who won a midterm congressional race, that's normal. And if you wake up the next morning and find that a candidate who was behind hours earlier has since pulled ahead, that's normal, too. (via @PolitiFact) to.pbs.org/4zqnWBa

It’s even worse than Anish notes here because boys make up 61% of the top SAT scores. So despite that fact and the fact that men apply about 2x as often to MIT; @MIT admits more women every year than men. It’s impossible for this to be merit based. Just mathematically impossible.
17,000 men apply to MIT 8900 women apply to MIT 600 men were accepted 612 women were accepted If we assume male and female applicants to MIT are roughly the same, the probability this happens by chance, let alone every year for a while The probability of a sex blind admission process creating this result is 1 in 4 × 10³¹

Men are twice as likely to ace SAT math, yet women are twice as likely to get in to MIT. Put differently, 1 in 3 men who worked their ass off to get into MIT lost their seat because they were born the wrong gender.

Nvidia: We need more Fab capacity. Elon Musk: I am building the fab. Sam Altman: What if we took everyone's gaming computers?
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman thinks it's "terrible" for people to have RAM in their computers rather than in a data center, as the scarcity of memory caused by the AI boom continues to drive up costs. bit.ly/47LJ09d

Update on the Red Baron guy, and it gets better. The man who started that GoFundMe, Luke Oakenshield, is a military veteran who's been homeless and sleeping in his car. A friend had to loan him $20 a few days ago just so he could move it. He still tracked Walt down and made sure the money went straight to him. Why? In his words, "because I know struggle." Walt's fund is past $650,000 now. And once folks learned Luke's story, they started one for him too. It's already past $30,000. A tired working man stood up to a prankster. A homeless vet stood up for him. Regular Americans stood up for both. That's the country I know. teapaw.org/KevinRich/status/21162…
A prankster fakes an Apple Pay charge on a Red Baron delivery guy who's stocking freezers, already an hour late getting home to his four kids, and expects him to laugh. He didn't. Good for him. Then regular Americans sent him more than $480,000, and Red Baron publicly said he's still on the team and has a fan club, "including us." The guy filming strangers for clicks? His account got shut down. That's this country at its best. "Prank" content is mostly harassment with a ring light. Respect people doing an honest day's work, and leave them alone.
