The lockdowns revealed how many people have no critical thinking and are willing to turn on their neighbours because the government tells them to.

did you know your samsung tv has a service called rmdemon (that's not a typo, demon not daemon) that starts a PACKET LOGGER on your network.
what possible legitimate use case could there be here, samsung?
Chad retweeted
turns out it classifies what audio it hears, before reporting back to samsung.

The apocalyptic problem for home video enthusiasts is less that studios will decide to stop releasing films on disc but that the companies that make the disc players will cease production. These aren't record players; they're complicated to manufacture. flatpanelshd.com/news.php?su…

Remember, "4" is not a good option to sign certificates. Neither is "56" or "115".

So basically, today PHP got two critical bugs that let anyone run code on your server without even logging in, which is bad, and then the details leaked before the patch was even out, which is worse, and it works on WordPress and MediaWiki and Magento and Joomla and Laravel, and Censys says like 1.5 million servers are running a version with no fix, so the NSA was like "take your system offline," and the FBI was like "take your system offline," and CISA and the UK and CERT-EU were all like "take your system offline," and then the Prime Minister of Japan, the actual Prime Minister, posted at 5:55 in the morning telling 48.8 million people to take their system offline, so everyone took their system offline, like the Dutch cybersecurity agency took its own website offline, and the Dutch parliament went offline, and the Port of Rotterdam went offline, and Finland and France and Denmark started pulling government sites, and Wikipedia went down, and Archive.org went down, and Asana and GOG and Something Awful went down, and the University of Vienna's webmail went down for some reason, and that's just PHP. Because GitLab also dropped a CVSS 10.0, which is the highest score they give out, for a bug that's been there since 2014, so that's every self-hosted GitLab for twelve years, and then LiteLLM 1.107.0 got hijacked and shipped a credential stealer and a remote access trojan in every single wheel and the Docker images, including latest, and you didn't even have to import it, just installing it was enough, and it's the second time this year, and then Railway paused every deployment on the entire platform because someone got into the environment variables, so now everyone has to rotate every secret they've ever stored there, and TiDB Cloud said someone was walking around inside with stolen credentials for basically a month and an extortion group says they took 10.6 terabytes, and Zeabur got breached for the second time in two months and is just shutting down, like the whole company, and Node.js patched remote code execution and a TLS bypass, and CISA says Plex is being actively exploited, and someone took over 300 Tor exit relays to steal SSH passwords, and SafePay ransomware has hit over 600 critical infrastructure orgs, and India's biggest bank filed a data loss incident, and Japan has been in an official state of emergency in cyberspace since October 9, which honestly explains the 5:55 AM post. Oh, and eMudhra, a certificate authority that's issued over 60 million certificates, whose entire job is proving websites are who they say they are, was supposed to be using private keys that are random numbers over a hundred digits long, and one of them was 4. Just 4. And the others were like 66 and 237. Anyway, it's Wednesday.

If America had built 1,000 nuclear reactors by 2000 and continued expanding, nuclear power would supply ~90% of our electricity today, even with dramatically higher demand from electrification.
We wouldn’t just have cheaper, abundant electricity. We’d have an entirely different industrial economy. Never forget what they stole from you.
Ralph Nader, 1997: “When we came out against nuclear power in the early '70s, the government had predicted that there would be 1,000 nuclear plants by the year 2000 in the United States, and there's 109 and shrinking, as more and more get shut down.” pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline…

Reminds me of a professor on here posting during Covid how she wished she lived in a country like Canada with socialized healthcare so she could check herself in to a hospital for a "two week preventative treatment"
And it was like...lol. lmao, even.

European military pilots would get based in TX to instruct at Shepard AFB as part of an international program.
They bought big trucks, rented large houses & had a ball. Some took garbage disposals back to Europe, where it’s unheard of.
Not everything is as it appears.

This is a great way to describe the problem with people who use AI. You didn't do the thinking or put in any effort. If YOU aren't willing to put in the time building your projects why should I put in the time caring about them?

High schoolers who…
—Write in the middle of the page like they’re trying to center all of their text...
—Write in the middle of the line instead of on it….
—Totally ignore margins and write from one edge of the page to the other edge…
—Can’t spell anything, sometimes not even their name…
—never learned to properly form letters…
…have likely never read a book.
Remember, I stipulated HIGH SCHOOL.
Ask yourself how that’s possible, that in 10+ years of school, they haven’t seen enough text to recognize that what they’re doing doesn’t make sense.
And no, I’m not blaming the kids.

I've had 11th graders that don't know what a paragraph is.
I don't mean that they can't write a paragraph (they can't), but that they don't actually know what one is. I've asked students to look for the third paragraph on a page, or some such direction, only to get asked "what is that?"
I am not exaggerating. I am not being sensational. I have a lot of ideas for how things got so bad, but it is undeniably bad. The average person has no idea.

If it weren't for the way the ADA was written, every 2nd and 3rd floor of downtown buildings in all of America's small towns could look like this.
Instead, most of these units are empty and in ruins. All because the ADA would require them to install an elevator...
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The ADA does not require elevators for upper floors in most small or existing residential/commercial buildings, and the Fair Housing Act allows non-elevator multifamily buildings (only ground-floor units need accessibility features).
