Congratulations to @Dr_KFO this years #APHL emerging leader award! Much deserved! Thankful for all of your work and energy into furthering sequencing and bioinformatics here in public health! #sequenceallthethings
Great lecture today by @PeterHotez at #APHL annual conference today!
Many thanks @APHL for hosting my Dr. Katherine Kelly Lecture in Milwaukee today. I spoke about our @TexasChildrens approach to develop low-cost often patent-free neglected disease and coronavirus vaccines for global health + my struggles to counter rising antivaccine activism

Dug more deeply into this situation. Seems @CDCgov was on the ball & able to quickly spot a faulty test component being restocked from external mfr, by using their enhanced quality review process. (dare I say, a lesson was really learned from 2020)
As steps are taken to prepare for possible human cases of H5N1, this is exactly how we’d want the @CDCFlu to work. Spot an issue, notify labs, work with @US_FDA, implement solution. All with full transparency (at risk of being criticized). Bravo @CDCgov.

Ouch, but good they caught it now. Painful lesson in 2020 was to not rely on single source for test development. There are many labs across 🇺🇸 to develop, validate, produce tests / reagents for public health response.
Very imp to not rely on a central lab for confirmatory testing, too. @davidalim @politico @APHL
That’s a wrap! Wonderful time with lab and epis together as we finished up AMD Academy - great conversations and learning for all on bioinformatics, genomic epidemiology, and more! Fun way to spend #LabWeek #thanksPHLabs @CDC_AMD @APHL

Such a great time with the @APHL NGS subcommittee this week! We got to be the first group in the new APHL building (offices not open yet but got to use a common area conference center). Exciting times in AMD - discussions on priorities, metagenomics, LIMS, and so much more!
