It's Tax Season and as a full-time Canadian creator I used to struggle getting everything together each year. I thought I'd make a post to help other creators stay organized as it can be super stressful and I feel like I finally have this time of year pretty smooth and stress-free 🥰 Here’s how I survive tax season 🩷: -Separate Credit Card account for all my streaming spending (that way your personal spending and stream spending are easily separated) -Separate Savings account for all my streaming payments to come in and go out of -Save 30% of income and put it into a TFSA for tax time (if you have some left over, woo!) -Keep receipts for EVERYTHING (Steam games, ring lights, replacement parts, subscriptions etc) and include things that are specific for streaming as deductibles! (my hair, nails, blue light glasses, cosplays etc are all expenses 🥰) -Master checklist of all incomes/partnerships your affiliated with (YouTube ads, merch sales, donations etc) -If you stream from home, you can section parts of your bills as business expenses (cell phone, electricity, etc) -Create a Google Drive Folder for screenshots of expenses or receipts you think you might lose throughout the year so they don't get lost - or just tax things you want to keep organized for the following tax season! -I personally print everything out and keep it in a file folder for 5 years (this way if I ever get audited I have proof of my numbers) -I use coloured highlighters for different things like incomes, expenses, etc. if you want to stay extra organized and not lose track where you last were when totaling your numbers haha -Shop around for an accountant that can file it for you (if you can afford one!) and look for ones who have experience in the streaming world if you can! My specialist has been working with me for years and she understands the space 🩷 -Make notes of things you struggled with or couldn't find easily and stick it on a file folder labeled "TAXES NEXT YEAR" so you aren't struggling with the same issues as much in the next tax season I'm no expert but Tax Season sucks for us all, hopefully this can help someone out! 🥰 I probably missed things and maybe it's not accurate outside of Canadian streaming but tweak it to your preference! Good luck streamers! 🫡 (I'm currently working on my taxes and needed a break XD)
