Huge SEO News: Claude is embedding a hidden watermark in all AI-content that will "travel with the text".
Google will soon have ZERO problem detecting AI:

For 3 years now, we haven't had a way to get any first-hand/official insight into how our average target customer may be prompting AI platforms, like ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini.
It was recently noticed and confirmed that AI Mode records those prompts as queries in the "Performance" section of the Search Console.
This was noticed by "yes" queries, which were confirmed to be follow-up questions in AI Mode. I see those as well...
Looking at the clients' reports, this idea already looks useful, as I can click to the "Pages" tab for each of those queries to see which assets LLMs are pulling from the client's website. Lots of additional opportunities there (update, optimize, create similar ones, etc.)
Another idea is to pull longer, conversational queries using the following regex: 👇
([^” “]*\s){10,}?
This can reveal some cool AI Mode prompts as well.
Note: This must be common knowledge, but since I was confused about that as well, here's your reminder... For high-traffic properties, you will only be able to see queries that send at least some clicks, only. Since AI Mode might be sending none, you will miss those unless you access the SC data through the API. (h/t to @glenngabe 👏)

Whoa, Cloudflare is launching AI visibility reporting (for free I believe). For companies providing those services and tracking, this is a huge heads-up. You can sign up for the beta today ('Register interest'). See below:
"To evaluate how an AI model perceives your market presence, we build a benchmark across each industry and category before scoring a specific site. We query AI assistants with likely prompts in that category — without specifying your brand — and record which sites are cited, where they appear, and how prominently they feature."
"Alongside the answers, an AI Operator Activity shows the real crawl and referral traffic on your site, per operator (OpenAI, Google, and so on): who reads your content, who sends visitors back, and the errors they hit on the way (403 blocked, 404 dead link)."

Content Prioritization in an AI Search Era: A Framework + Worksheet 👇 What type of content is still worth creating when AI platforms can answer queries without sending a click?
To translate this into something actionable that I can share with clients, I’ve created a content prioritization framework in an AI search era, taking into account the reason a user would still visit the content, its proprietary value, and connection to business outcomes.
The framework uses six directional dimensions that can be used to assess investment options, then reprioritize them with your site’s actual users, priority prompts, performance and business model.
Recommended content to prioritize:
1. Brand and entity pages
2. Transaction and task-completion pages
3. Official product documentation, specifications and policies
4. First-hand product tests and performance reviews
5. Original market, audience and usage research
6. Live first-party databases and reference hubs
7. Documented customer outcomes, experiments and case studies
8. Product specific implementation and troubleshooting guides
9. Evidence led comparisons and selection guides
10. Personalized tools using live or proprietary data
11. Curated community and practitioner knowledge
12. Original reporting and source analysis
13. Scalable pages featuring genuine, useful insights powered by unique first-party data
Recommended content to deprioritize:
1. Standalone commodity definitions without brand or journey context
2. Rehashed explainers and how to guides without original value
3. Fragmented FAQ and keyword variant pages serving one intent
4. Third-party news and press release rewrites without original input
5. High volume tangential topics without a credible business journey
6. Biased or mass produced ‘best’, comparison and alternatives pages
7. Generic calculators, quizzes and generators without distinctive inputs
8. Programmatic pages built from public or competitor data
As you can see, many times the problem isn’t necessarily with the format itself, but how it's executed and whether it provides an actual reason to be visited, cited or associated with the brand.

This is a slide from a recent presentation webinar I gave called "Crypto' Bro's are on Su1cide Watch" ...
I thought i'd share it with you.
You can scream at the screen and bash your keyboard / phone as much as you want.
I've closed comments.
I don't have to share these things with anyone.
I just can't be bothered engaging in a rage conversation with someone who turned $1,000 into $6,000 and they think they're part of someone technological altruist movement.
It's not trading.
Its not investing
It's totally g4y!
All the narratives have now disappeared.
The latest one is "The Infinite Money Machine" 😂
It will disappear too ...

So am I correct in understanding that *none* of the existing SEO rank tracking tools have any type of organic visibility / traffic index for Bing?
After 16 years in SEO, I officially really need this 🤣
PS if your company has one of these, please lmk.

Imagine teaching PR and branding teams to manage tracking prompts, fan-out queries, rendering issues, robots.txt, website performance, WebMCP etc. 😂
Of course other folks need to be involved for AI search to be successful; it’s a cross-channel/brand effort.
But yeah… AI search is search and SEO teams who have been paying attention to how search has evolved over the last 20+ years are best equipped to manage AI search.
While some still debate what AI search optimization should be called (GEO, AEO, LLMO…), companies have already answered the question that actually matters: who does the work 👇
I did a poll asking who's in charge of AI Search Optimization in the company you work at/with and after 1,212+ votes, the debate is settled:
* 86% The SEO team
* 9% An AI Search team *with* SEOs
* 1% An AI Search team *without* SEOs
* 2% Another digital marketing team
That's 95% of companies where SEOs are leading or directly involved in AI search efforts. Only 1% have handed it to a team without SEOs.
Yes, my audience skews SEO but even with that bias, a 95 to 1 ratio is hard to argue with!
The reality is that AI search optimization is being executed by the people who already understand *search* as a discovery/marketing channel... the pillars have been expanded, not replaced.
So rather than debating the name, the real questions to focus on are:
⭐️ Are SEO teams being resourced and enabled to take on this expanded scope?
⭐️ Are they being included in the AI conversations happening at the exec level?
⭐️ Are they measuring beyond traffic to show AI search business impact?
Remember: Just buying an AI search optimization tool isn't a real strategy! Ownership without enablement is accountability without support.
✅ If you're an SEO who's been handed AI search: congratulations, and also, negotiate: Expanded scope should come with expanded support.
✅ If you're a leader who's assigned it to your SEO team: make sure they have a seat at the table where AI strategy decisions are made, not just the ticket queue.
It's time to focus on what actually matters: AI search growth 🙌

Ahrefs' Domain Rating endpoint is now free! You don't even need an API key.
I built a tool to show it off (and possibly send you some visitors?) 🎉
The idea is simple: Enter your site, reveal your DR, and find other sites with the same score.
If you like, you can also submit your domain to be one of the recommendations, and potentially get some visitors sent your way.
See it in action over on detailed dotcom /dr/
Of course, I'm not expecting this to go viral in any way, but you might reach a few marketers and webmasters in your niche.
The idea is a little cheesy, I know, but I had to test out the new endpoint myself.
Simplified, DR aims to show the strength of a website's backlink profile compared to other sites in the Ahrefs database.
It works on a 0-100 scale, and can be useful for quick competitor benchmarking, link prospecting, outreach prioritization, and more.
To give some context on the numbers...
Wikipedia: DR 97
Ahrefs: DR 91
YCombinator: DR 91
Tinder: DR 82
Detailed: DR 73
Even if you're not technically savvy, it's still super easy to use. Point your AI assistant of choice straight to the Ahrefs API docs, and it will figure out the rest.
Hopefully you find this new endpoint useful in your workflows! 🙌

Google Trends is now completely bonkers, likely due to AI search
For every AI search, Google performs multiple fan-out queries, and those fan-outs look to be getting lumped together

Massive SEO News: Google is launching the most requested report in Google Search Console ever. A new AI performance report!
Here's what we know so far:
• It will include dedicated reports for both Search and Discover
• The data will be reflected within Search for AI Overviews and AI Mode, alongside AI features in Discover
• The report will only be focused on impressions within generative AI features, not clicks
• The rollout will start with a subset of websites, allowing thorough testing (so keep an eye out!)
There are some major limitations to this initial testing phase, where the actual queries that users are searching won't show in the report, with only impressions for pages, countries, devices, and dates.
Though the dataset will be limited, this is certainly a step in the right direction!
I will be covering this rollout within my newsletter, so make sure to subscribe if you aren't already: serpalert.com/
