MIND-BLOWING STATS: A record 2/3 of new cars in China are now electric, while combustion-car sales have fallen by 2/3 since they peaked in 2017
โ In 2020, ~95% of sales were combustion-engine cars
โ By Sep 2026, they crashed to 33%
โ On the flip side, NEVs hit a record 67%

it was an 8-1 vote to no longer let buildings get blocked because they cast a shadow.
the sole vote bravely defending blocking new homes that throw shade? you guessed it, conservative NIMBY Connie Chan.
The SHADE Act has been passed into law today by Mayor Lurie!
Over the past 10 years, over 2000 units of housing have been blocked or delayed because NIMBYs said the housing would cast a "shadow".
So we're done letting red tape cast shade over our housing future. The SHADE Act will no longer allow shadows be used as a basis for environmental appeals. It will save between 3-9 months on some environmental reviews and up to $25,000 per project in reduced staff, consultant, and administrative costs.
We can protect our parks, respect our environment, and welcome more neighbors. We donโt have to choose. Itโs time to let housing projects see the light of day.
Thank you to all those who helped turn this into law. My cosponsors Matt Dorsey, Danny Sauter, and Myrna Melgar. My legislative aide Raynell Cooper, all the incredible members of the Planning Department including Lisa Gibson, Lisa Gluckstein, Ryan Shum,Kei Zushi, Tania Sheyer, Debra Dwyer, members of the Mayors Office including Ned Segal and Adam Thongsavat, and our drafting attorney Andrea Ruiz-Esquide.

It could not be more stark, according to the data. You could have the hardest-working, most prodigious Congressional representative or the most obstructive.
โBased on 84 votes she cast on land use since she joined the board in 2021, Chan was second only to former Board President Aaron Peskin in amassing a record consistently opposed to liberalizing housing regulation.โ
โFrom Wienerโs first session in the state Senate in 2017-2018 through the 2025-2026 session, he authored the most bills of any legislator in the chamber, at 186. Of those bills, 97 passed and were signed by the governorย โ the second-most over that period.โ

As we expand and improve public transit โ which must be a high priority at all levels of government โ we also must lower the cost of these projects. Other countries have much lower costs. We need to make that happen in the U.S.
Red light cameras are extremely effective. We need to expand them in Minneapolis!
We know how to make our streets safer, so we did it 600 times.
Red light cameras reduce red light running by 80% and T-bone crashes by 65%. Most importantly, they help New Yorkers get home safely.
That's why we installed new red light cameras at 600 intersections across the five boroughs to help stop dangerous driving before tragedy strikes, and make our streets safer for everyone who walks, rolls, drives, or takes the bus.

One of the most important things we must do when we retake power is stop Trumpโs war on science โ restore the federal science agencies, restore the science cuts to research institutions, and restore our nationโs status as the science epicenter of the world. Science has been a pillar of American prosperity for 80 years. We must not lose this core part of our national identity.
The Trump administrationโs cuts to weather satellites will set the country back nearly a decade, experts say. The loss of data used to observe, forecast and research extreme weather could prevent the US from making major advances in weather prediction in the coming years. cnn.it/4k6eD4o
I'm visiting San Francisco to help the @Scott_Wiener campaign for congress, in the seat that Pelosi is retiring from. The race is a YIMBY v NIMBY showdown, and I view it as one of the most important elections in the country for the future of housing and transportation policy.
He's also been a major supporter of scientific research funding, which is a critical issue that doesn't get the attention I think it deserves; restoring the research funding that Trump has cut needs be a top priority for the next Congress.

These NYC apartments are standing empty, not because the owners don't want to rent them, but because rent stabilization laws prohibit them from charging enough to earn back the costs of necessary repairs.

Our State government is one of the last lines of defense against a hostile, tyrannical White House.
Minnesotans are united in rejecting the Presidentโs hatred.
When the Federal government gets it wrong, we need leaders at the State & local level to be ready on the front lines.
