Jocelyn Bioh’s 'African Mean Girls Play' is a rip-roaring portrait of Black girlhood. And for one whirlwind weekend, the Tony-nominated playwright hit the stage to star in her own Broadway production

can someone who's good at the internet make a video of Amanda Bynes as Elizabeth Holmes dancing down the Jennifer Hudson spirit tunnel? think that would heal something

After years of stand-up that “evades any kind of autobiographical material,” Kate Berlant is opening up in her new HBO special, ‘Parmesan.’
The beloved, absurdist comedian explores herself—her wants, needs, fears, desires—while blending her singular vaudevillian performance style with the intellectual insight of a modern-day millennial philosopher. The result is a stand-up special that’s both timeless and so situated in our current moment that you’re laughing before you realize maybe we should all be crying.

Funny how the “Kelly Clarkson will never interact with a store” crowd has been magically silent this whole week
Had a long wonderful chat with the mother of alt comedy Kate Berlant about her hilarious new HBO special Parmesan. It has everything LA clowns, meta theatrics and… yes… the concept of queerness vanityfair.com/story/kate-be…

“La Bola Negra” co-director Javier Ambrossi defends casting straight actor Miguel Bernardeau in a gay role, stating he’s “not against” straight actors portraying LGBTQ+ characters:
“I totally get why straight actors want to play gay roles. It’s their craft to portray people that are different from them. I’m not against that. The political statement is still there with the LGBTQ+ people on camera and behind the camera.”
Bernardeau plays Rafael Rodríguez Rapún, a real-life activist and actor who was romantically involved with poet Federico García Lorca before his assassination in 1936. Ambrossi notes that his sexuality was a source of confusion: “Rafael was not an open gay man. He was confused — someone that was not able to say what he wanted.”
For his part, Bernardeau says he felt no doubt whatsoever about playing a gay role: “I never thought about it like that, or cared what people would think about my sexuality.”

"For all the hand-wringing and discourse generated by the term, it seems clear that queerbaiting, both as a concept and something to be legitimately mad about, has passed its sell-by date," writes VF's @christress

If you are chronically online (and if you are reading this, you probably are), then you’ve likely come across the term queerbaiting before.
In recent years, however, this word has seemingly become a catch-all term for anything that might upset or mislead members of the LGBTQ+ community. These two characters of the same sex keep flirting but never actually hook up? That’s queerbaiting. A straight actor is playing a queer role? Queerbait. There’s a photo of a bunch of guys hanging out together in a sauna? I’m calling the queerbait police.
For all the hand-wringing and discourse generated by the term, it seems clear that queerbaiting, both as a concept and something to be legitimately mad about, has passed its sell-by date. It belonged to Woke 1.0, and VF’s @christress argues it’s best if we leave it there: vanityfair.visitlink.me/qZEP…
