Finally managed to put together a little website for myself. Let's see how long this one lasts. chriswelch.co/
We're looking to move back to the bay, which means we're evaluating places to live. So instead of relying on static floorplans, I fed those to Codex so now I get 3d environments with materials and simulated natural light interactions.
You can just build things.

I'm excited to introduce Exposure
the RAW camera app I've always wanted :)
I adore the natural grain, and I've made the manual controls super direct
plus a sweet lensing shader for the focus loupe!

Today I wrapped up my time at IG. Nearly 10 years at Meta and countless friendships gained along the way.
Very cool and normal to watch a video of a cool new prototype, only for that to immediately page to a video showing extreme violence.
Nothing better than seeing the homies collect W's.
So legitimately excited to finally get to unveil some of the work myself, @nebson, and some of my peers have been working on for the iPhone Duo.
Seriously so much fun, and was wild to see it featured in the Keynote
Made it into a game. Bucket list ✔️

A couple fun easter eggs. Craftdeck cards on the coffee table in the design studio with a rotating list of characters. cc @gabrielvaldivia and @chrisw
Couldn't agree more.
The job market is a tale of two cities right now. The difference I am noticing between the folks who are inundated with eye-watering seven-figure offers and those who have trouble finding a role is simply the ability to keep learning, adapting, and getting better.
It's a brave new world out there. Gone are the days of sticky notes and following the "right process."
Things to start doing :
1. Get comfortable with code. Like, now. If you missed the boat on trad code, plenty of IDEs to play with. Did you start yet? No?? I'm begging you, please. For me.
2. Build personal projects. What are you building in your free time? What is the real you, free from the shitty design systems that bind you, capable of? This also clearly demonstrates a builder's mindset and agency.
3. Work on your visual design and creativity. I think years ago, "complexity in the work" and "product thinking" allowed us to get away with weaker craft, but no more. Get weird, people. Have fun with your site and portfolio. Make something memorable. A great start would be @joshpuckett 's Interface Craft.
4. Get curious. It's a fucking designer's playground right now, there are so many fun tools out there to experiment with!
The first team that gets this right will win.
interesting approach from @monogram_ai to generative ui
Software has always bundled capabilities with fixed interfaces:
idea --> notes app
need food --> grocery app
book a flight --> travel app
Most of those interfaces are full of features designed for everyone
not tailored to you
Generate only the interface you need, when you need it
cool
Sorry, I'm not going to be able to join the meeting. The new @Smith_Diction case study just dropped.
