VA survivor benefits used to take days — or even weeks — just to get a claim started.
Now it is instantaneous.
We worked with @DeptVetAffairs, in support of Huntridge Labs, to make that happen.
By digitizing complex, paper-based forms and redesigning the experience with a people-first approach, we turned a confusing, multi-step process into a clear, guided digital flow. Built-in validation and direct system integration mean submissions are now complete, accurate, and ready for processing immediately.
The outcome: survivor benefit applications that once took weeks to initiate can now begin instantly—reducing delays and helping families access critical benefits faster.

Bot traffic across the web continues to grow, and we’ve been seeing its impact firsthand on large government websites.
In “Mitigating Bot Traffic on Government Websites,” CivicActioner Daniel Mundra shares how our team has been analyzing increases in both expected (“good”) bots like search crawlers, and less predictable traffic that can strain systems and affect performance.
In this first post, Daniel covers:
🔶 How we identify patterns in bot traffic
🔶 What we’re seeing in request behavior and volume
🔶 The approaches we’ve taken to manage and reduce impact, including rate limiting, AWS WAF, and request challenges
This work is ongoing, and we’re continuing to refine how we balance performance, cost, and access. Part 2 will focus on stabilizing performance for a Drupal site hosted on AWS.

“One of the original goals of Section 508 was to have that procurement angle. Thirty-three years ago, they were thinking about this and the importance of this, and trying to build in a structure so that procurement was going to be a driver for making the U.S. more accessible and making digital products and services more accessible.”
CivicActioner @mgifford in @FederalNewsNet_ on why acquisition is key to advancing Section 508 compliance across government.

As the LINCS platform for the @usedgov expanded over time, infrastructure complexity grew across multiple environments.
CivicActions helped streamline operations by consolidating application servers from 6 to 4, improving efficiency while reducing the system’s infrastructure footprint.
Now the team is taking the next step—re-engineering the platform with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to eliminate “snowflake servers” and enable automated, consistent deployments.

Accessibility Tip of the Week: Use headings & spacing to group related content. People with very low vision may zoom in 1400x into your page to read it. Thinking through how related content is grouped together will help with navigation. tinyurl.com/a11yCA #a11y
