A difficult week in general practice 🧵 :
The bread and butter of general practice is having the time, skills and relationships to work through undifferentiated symptoms and help steer the patient to safety, whatever that may be. It could be reassurance, referral or medications.
Writing this from my hospital bed in France having smashed up my leg skiing. Looking at health care as a patient through the prisms of pain fear and vulnerability. The treatment was efficient and effective but lacking in compassion and empathy.
When we work in stressful conditions empathy and compassion are often early victims- but they are the magic of healthcare. A touch or a look is all it needs and crosses language barriers. Please #remeberyourcompassion.

Doctors are seen as powerful, but we're pretty powerless. Most health is environmentally determined. We need healthy homes & workplaces, healthy air, rivers, oceans & nutritious food. We need a wide range of healthy plants & animals. Medicine can add to this but not substitute it
Many congratulations @SuzRankin. Thank you for your vision, leadership and support. We will really miss you but you leave a strong legacy and all of us in the NorthWest Surrey Alliance will work to continue what you started.
It is with a mix of emotions that our chairman @AndyField1 announces today that our CEO @SuzRankin has been successfully appointed as the new Chief Executive of @CV_UHB and will be leaving @asphft at the end of January 2022. Read more here: bit.ly/3od36Ue

Dr Woodall has supported us in general practice. By hurting one you hurt us all. He shouldn’t be made to feel this way. #BeKind #TeamGP

Change is uncomfortable and hard as hell. When leaders expect others to change without participating + holding themselves accountable - it’s almost impossible. When leaders show up and model the vulnerability required for transformation change - it’s often unstoppable.
A BIG thank you to 2nd Knaphill Brownies and 3rd Knaphill Guides for their very generous donation to the Woking Vaccination team and for the gorgeous cards and artwork!
Thanks to everyone at the shah Jahan Mosque in Woking, Professor Aftab Ala, and local GPs for helping get this organised.
Local GP Federation @NICS_fed have linked up with the Shah Jahan Mosque in Woking to set up a Covid-19 vaccination clinic there today. They’re vaccinating 60 people with pre-booked appointments and hope to offer more vaccine services from the mosque at a later date.
