Update: We ended up making it to Hong Kong at 1:30 AM, after a really long delay in Xiamen, so we’ll make it back to the US. Was rough though, a 2 hour flight became an 8 hour one unexpectedly. 🙃

AI has made people who haven't opened up a terminal in a decade come out of retirement. And for that I love this new era.

Definitely feels like a metaverse would need some kind of UI interop. Emojis being different across iOS and Android already cause misunderstandings. Your perception of reality differing based on what OS you choose would be pretty bad.

This is the only HBO Max email I ever opened, so in a way, the intern did better than everyone else.
We mistakenly sent out an empty test email to a portion of our HBO Max mailing list this evening. We apologize for the inconvenience, and as the jokes pile in, yes, it was the intern. No, really. And we’re helping them through it. ❤️

saying devs are "too valuable" to be on call is nothing but thinly disguised engineering classism. if you're not on call for your code, who is? who are you forcing to wake up for the consequences of your actions? do they get paid more than you, or less than you? i rest my case.

Interesting blog post from Airbnb on their experience with React Native, and why they're moving away from it. Very much parallels my own experience from a while back. teapaw.org/gpeal8/status/10091130…
After two years, 220 screens, and 120,000 lines of javascript, we're moving away from React Native at Airbnb. I tried to summarize our experience in a single blog post but that wouldn't do it justice so it turned into five! medium.com/airbnb-engineerin…

If you're trying to integrate React Native into any large, existing iOS or Android codebase, you absolutely will have to fork it and maintain that fork separately. It's one expensive cost that many people (including us) didn't realize.
