Are you a social worker or do you know someone who is? How do you fancy some new legal powers to coerce people, with all the risks and responsibilities which come with that? Lord Davies of Brixton thinks you should have this option which could then be seen as an obligation.

This is different to the post yesterday about 136 amendments. Lord Davies of Brixton has been quite busy and I much more get where he's coming from with this one, albeit some questions and issues still arise.
NEW BLOG - "New 140 Amendments" Lord Davies of Brixton has proposes that section 140 MHA be amended to compel wider notification of hospitals which can urgently admit and clear legal obligation and oversight to admit when necessary. mentalhealthcop.wordpress.co…

Highlights from the MH Bill '24 in a🧵- Section 3 MHA will change: - Autism and LD will no longer qualify for detention under the provision - Will initially last three months, not six; but is still renewable 3-3-6-12-12, etc. - The new "nominated person" is relevant. 1/

Yet another discerning 'Blog' of invaluable worth to all professionals in the world of "Mental Health" from Mr Brown. The back catalogue of Mr Browns' "Blogs" should be archived securely by a responsible organisation and published for the benefit of all by an academic body.

Have you ever imagined having to be an AMHP trying to get a s135(1) MHA assessment organised? You need various things in place and you need them all at the same time. A short thread - 1/
& on the 3rd day I tried (again) & I failed (again)✔️ #AMHPlife #RCRP my rather substantial #AMHP arse ✔️ *Let’s hope that my EDT colleagues have more luck✔️>

The answer/review is always to suggest greater levels of restrictions & coercion & use of the #MHA & that lessons be learnt✔️>
"Providers will need to ensure that 'lessons are learnt' from the review, in particular, in relation to discharge planning, risk assessment, patient & family engagement, capacity assessments and the use of the MHA, including CTOs." lexology.com/library/detail.…

Mark Seems to me that there will be as many opinions/comments/complaints etc about the scenario of the Bill being 'shelved' as there are commentators - but the real 'players'/stake-holders that have influence here and now to move things on are listed in my previous reply to you.

Mark, in another tweet I ask if it might be worth reconvening the "Review" so that the Bill in progress can be scrutinised & so add to the state of readiness you suggest. (Not start all over again but 'tidy up') Would 'civil servants' holding the Bill have authority to reconvene?

No mention of the Mental Health Bill in the official briefing notes for the King's Speech... so I guess that has been kicked down the road for the next government along with LPS... gov.uk/government/publicatio…

Will a new Mental Health Act (when it appears!) be able to deal with a scenario such as this? I suspect that the one that has been proposed and is being worked on currently will not.
Accept it’s not obvious & the judge can’t make the Drs fill in Med Recs or instruct an #AMHP to make an application… *But that is some pressure✔️

Any word on whether the Mental Health Bill will feature in the King's Speech today? (It's not looking promising from early leaks to media...)
