First Lady Melania Trump is claiming credit for a ceasefire in Russian-occupied Oleshky, southern Ukraine. But the Vatican says it was Pope Leo XIV who phoned Putin on Oct. 16, while still in hospital after lung cancer surgery, and asked for a truce to get food and aid in. The Kremlin confirmed the call. Secretary of State Cardinal Parolin says the initiative was the pope's. As @thedailybeast notes, it's reminiscent of 2016, when Melania said she wrote her RNC speech "with as little help as possible," only for whole passages to turn out to mirror Michelle Obama's 2008 convention speech.

Honest cop reveals that the Government’s *antisemitic* claims were wrong. ‘Deputy police commissioner states Premier Minns and Minister Catley incorrectly told the public that there had been “700 instances of antisemitic attacks”. ‘Hudson told the inquiry that figure included both antisemitic and Islamophobic incidents since 11 October 2023. ‘Catley last month said that “there have been more than 700 antisemitic events and incidents and arrests in this city”. ‘The following day, Minns said: “There have been 700 instances of antisemitic attacks over the summer.” ‘Thurtell confirmed during the hearing that of the 700 incidents just “40-odd percent” were antisemitic. I listen to a lot of international podcasts so am used to listening to hosts & guests speak English in dozens of different accents. Even Glaswegian. No problem. But Georgia? Specifically NE Georgia (the US state, not the country) I grasp about 20% of what they’re saying. 😂

The mainstream media is reporting that the attack on Helen Haines was deliberate. So, someone drove a car at speed & hit her, perhaps with the intention of killing her but definitely seriously injuring her, & our PM is calling for ‘civility in politics.’ JFC!

Just back from the vet 10 days after surgery to save her life and partial removal of bowel and intestine. Vet’s diagnosis: ‘She is part Dalmatian, part Terminator.’ She is as good as new and bursting with energy. Now to try and keep her subdued for another week. 🤦‍♀️

When I was working, I always wanted to make sure that we had enough money when we retired that we would never be dependent on government funded aged care. I drove my husband nuts with the amount of money I said we needed in super before we retired. Best decision I ever made.

There is only one country in the world where a 7yo child in a wheelchair gets shot at school & people have to fundraiser for her medical treatment & it doesn’t even elicit a comment from political leaders. And that country is not the greatest country in the world. JFC America.

I appreciate true crime is a podcast/movie/series genre many people enjoy. I dip my toe in sometimes & I often wonder if I’m the only person on the planet who has never been within cooee of a murder or murderer & go about my life without ever worrying about being murdered.

So @SenatorWong how do you think these ‘essential elections’ could be held in Palestine. In what buildings would people vote? How could votes be collected & counted? How would candidates campaign? And we know Israel doesn’t honour ceasefires. So, voters just get killed?
