I’m somewhere in the 40-50 age range and my friends aren’t discussing this or the GitLab 10.0 without me promoting it. Should I be concerned?
If you're 25-30, and your main circle isn't discussing: - Two critical vulnerabilities being identified in PHP that allow malicious actors to remotely execute code in PHP core, potentially compromising sensitive data and networks. Then it's time to elevate your circle.

The first incident has ZERO to do with AI — the cert authority used 4 bit entropy instead of 384 🫠. In the second, AI is heavily on the defense side of a long-existing problem finally being fixed. AI creates issues but important to understand them right. Patch your software.
Two classes extremely bad cyber vulnerabilities disclosed in the last 24 hours. The first potentially impacts everyone online. The second impacts nearly everyone running a server. tl;dr: Everyone should upgrade their OS and Browser as soon as possible. If you run a server you should upgrade PHP (or ensure it’s removed if you’re not using it) as soon as possible. The first class of vulnerabilities is a set of root TLS certificates that were discovered to have a trivial private key. Literally the number 4. These roots were controlled by #eMudhra. The problem is that with that an attacker could create a certificate and, if they could get in the traffic flow, intercept traffic to any site or service. The solution is to stop trusting certificates issued by these vulnerable roots. Upgrading your browser and OS is the fastest way for most Internet users to do this. The second class of vulnerabilities doesn’t apply to most consumers directly, but does apply to most anyone running a server. These vulnerabilities have been dubbed #php2shell. PHP is one of the most widely used web programming languages. It’s estimated 70% of websites run on PHP. These vulnerabilities allow an attacker to send a crafted set of queries to a server running PHP and potentially take over the server. From there they could potentially read, modify, delete, or repurpose anything on the server. The solution is to upgrade PHP to the latest version ASAP. Even if you’re not using PHP for your web development, it’s often included by default. So make sure it is either upgraded or fully removed. @Cloudflare received advanced warning of both of these classes of vulnerabilities. We’ve ensured that where we act as a proxy we are no longer trusting the vulnerable roots. We are also reviewing certificate transparency (CT) logs for any sign the vulnerability was exploited before its disclosure. We have not found any evidence but CT logs are not perfect and a sophisticated attacker who knew about the weakness could have exploited it without a new certificate being logged. For the PHP vulnerabilities, we have deployed mitigations available for all customers for free. Because of the complexity of the vulnerabilities and number of ways it can be exploited, we also released new WAF capabilities that are unique in the industry to catch the exploit based on the response. These too are available for every Cloudflare customer for free. Even if you are taking advantage of Cloudflare’s protection, it is important to upgrade your OS, browsers, and PHP installations as soon as possible. We can provide a strong bandaid, but the best protection is to fix the underlying problem. Off private again because we have to talk about PHP2Shell. So much of the Internet is actually that XKCD cartoon - some project thanklessly maintained by some person for practically no money or recognition. And when things break? All the blame.

Today? 9.2 PHP, 10.0 GitLab, major Node CVSS issues. A ton of moderate to high Drupal module issues. Those are the ones I know about. Staying up-to-date is exhausting, thankless work. Even if you love tech, knowing big corporations profit from this is frustrating.

So. Let’s support the maintainers and contributors and small projects where we can. If you work at a big company, push them to financially support. Ultimately, we have to recognize that capitalism and open source are incompatible. A better system is possible.

AI companies were invited to speak at hacker conference @hopeconf. You won’t believe what happened next! “And when they learned we would allow— and encourage— audience members to ask questions, the representatives stopped responding to us altogether.” hope.net/a-statement-on-ai-t…

Except I completely believe it. These companies that are accountable to no one but profit-seeking shareholders in one way or another are terrified of being questioned by smart people on the products they’re shoving down our throats - and destroying the environment with.

Yep. Within the last month, I’ve had sites hit by: 1) a plugin not upgraded automatically, leaving it open to a 0day, and 2) a plugin upgraded automatically after it had been hijacked
不升级 -> 0day. 升级 -> 供应链攻击.

Whatever this is, it’s going to be bad. They don’t back port to Drupal 9 and 8 for just any security issue. And right before a US holiday weekend too!

Idk. Last time Drake performed in New Haven (2009) his girlfriend probably hadn’t even been born yet

The @DeptofWar is in lockstep with President Trump to bring unprecedented transparency regarding our government’s understanding of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena. These files, hidden behind classifications, have long fueled justified speculation — and it’s time the American people see it for themselves. This release of declassified documents demonstrates the Trump Administration’s earnest commitment to unprecedented transparency.

They can’t pass just cause eviction protection or a simple cap on year-to-year rent hikes. What are they even celebrating?

The government actually loved “turn on, tune in, drop out” and the drug culture. Not only did it let them criminalize Black people and organizations, it demobilized significant sectors into individualism and mysticism when revolution was on the horizon. covertactionmagazine.com/202…
This article takes a critical look at acid guru Timothy Leary’s connection to the CIA, raising questions as to whether the CIA helped push the 1960's drug culture in order to destroy the new left. Read it at bit.ly/4cJExpj #TimothyLeary #CIA #HiddenHistory

Robert Mueller lied about Iraq having WMDs, lied about “Russiagate” and oversaw some of the most significant attacks on civil liberties ever. I won’t endorse that *other post* but he’s no hero of democracy or the people and shouldn’t be mourned.
