Decided to shake off the rust and write about the NBA more this season.
Consider checking out my Substack, Beyond the Box Score for a unique perspective on hoops:

I understand he’s all the future they’ve got… but, man, every Kings possession ends with Darius Acuff.
Sabonis seems to be the only one eager to get him in a PnR action because that means he has a 50/50 chance at getting the ball!
Good time to share this incredible story by @MirinFader. Hope DeMar is doing good.

Lakers outscore the Jazz, 45-24, in the second quarter. Erase an 18-point deficit and take a 74-71 lead into halftime.
Redick may have gotten his answer.
How the Lakers respond to adversity is something JJ Redick says he still wants to learn about his team.
He’ll get a good answer over the next three quarters. Jazz up 47-29 after the first. Let’s see.
Lakers most played two-man groups through the first two games. Wicked small sample size. Wicked numbers. (Lots of Matisse/Ziaire)

We’ve started the season whining about Luka Doncic whining.
I’ve actually always … liked that part of his game. Wish I had more of that.
We should agitate for ourselves; demand explanations. The squeaky-wheel act might not win you MVP, but it works.

From last night:
Walker Kessler has been everything the Lakers hoped for and more, including being the defensive anchor they’ve valued for so long. @LakersSBN
silverscreenandroll.com/lake…
Walker Kessler is the 8th Laker in history to record 6 blocks and 3 steals in a game, according to @Stathead.
He joins:
Kareem (7 times)
Anthony Davis (3)
Elmore Smith (3)
Shaq (1)
Wilt (1)
Vlade Divac (1)
Elden Campbell (1)
Walker Kessler and Austin Reaves have each been incredible on defense and offense respectively tonight. Kessler has 4 blocks and 3 steals. Reaves has 26 points on 9-of-11 shooting.
Funny because it kind of encapsulates what makes him so uniquely good... and yet it's still underrated.
Love the variance/versatility you get going between Ziaire-Thybulle and Mamu-Grimes with Luka, AR and Kessler.
Ziaire Williams and Matisse Thybulle played their first 12 minutes together and were a +9, highlighted by blowing up that Rui transition bucket.
They're being split up for the first time this game as AR comes in for Thybulle.
Watch Walker Kessler's feet as he stays with Garland in the paint here. Very light on his feet. The stop turns into a Luka bucket giving the Lakers a 49-48 lead.
Thought it was a good first shift from Collin Sexton. Really felt his tenacity... Lakers needed it after a dull start.
