Zohran Mamdani launched his mayoral campaign two years ago today. @PeterSterne interviewed him at the time. And it's remarkable how decarceration has not been the mayor's focus, at all, in office.

WTF, $3000 Samsung TV has an always-on mic, automatic content recognition, geo tracking, network mapping, and ships your data to Samsung + 400 partners. Bro Rooted a brand-new 2025 Samsung TV after noticing absurdly targeted ads. Firmware was locked down, so zero-days it was. Got a root shell. then found: always-on voice service, ACR, geo, full telemetry pipeline, and four separate DRM systems. This isn’t a bug, It’s the product bro.
i own a relatively new (2025) samsung tv. i kept getting weirdly targeted ads. i tried reversing the firmware but it was aes encrypted and no keys unless tear it apart and do uart/jtag magic. zero days it is. root shell on new samsung TVs! discovered PRIVACY HORROR. write up?

This is the result of 7+ years of Trump's attacks on @Ilhan, Somali-Americans, & the Muslim community.   Everyone, regardless of party, must speak out against this fascistic abuse of power.   If they can do this to a sitting Congresswoman, they can & will do it to anyone.
BREAKING WSJ: The Trump admin's investigation into Rep. Ilhan Omar is aimed at building a case to strip her of her U.S. citizenship and ultimately deport her, according to U.S. officials and other people familiar with the probe. wsj.com/politics/policy/ilha…

Some pretty insane details on Gillibrand here including: – Her comms director bought up to 30k of bitcoin and ether one week before Gillibrand announced a bill putting both under friendlier CFTC oversight. – Her chief of staff invoked the Senator's role as the DSCC’s top fundraiser while pushing other Dem aides to back her crypto-friendly legislation -Her 22-year-old son raised $30M for a startup that is backed by crypto investors, including a key Gillibrand donor. Gillibrand on staff trading crypto: “I could care less what they do with their money. This is not a nanny state.”
I asked Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand if it bothers her that her staff trades crypto while she works on legislation that benefits the industry. “This is not a nanny state,” she said. Profiled crypto’s favorite Democrat for @NYMag: nymag.com/intelligencer/arti…

Many on the left suspected this was the case, but it’s still wild to see the WSJ confirm it. Needless to say, stripping the citizenship of opposition elected officials is really, really far down the road to fascism.

Sort of insane fact about how broken US urban planning is—America now spends more building *just the lights for roads and highways* than on all subways & ground mass transit combined Spending on roadway *pavement* is 18x transit spending

Between the companies pushing direct-to-consumer pricey drugs for off-label use with no evidence of meaningful benefit to others marketing devices that failed clinical trials, this a real who's who of top contenders willfully fleecing patients and betting on deregulation. #MAHA

There are so many charts like this, where, if you remove China from the global data, the change is no longer significant. China is responsible for: - half of the world's solar/wind energy capacity, - all of the decline in global pollution, - 3/4ths of extreme poverty reduction
How fast is the world building up solar power? The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is an intergovernmental organization with 172 countries and the European Union. Its Renewable Energy Statistics is a reference dataset on how much renewable power capacity has been installed around the world. IRENA gathers the figures each year from national statistical offices, energy ministries, and industry associations, and fills gaps from official reports. The data covers almost every country from 2000 to 2025, broken down by technology: solar, wind, hydropower, bioenergy, geothermal, and others. The chart shows the total solar capacity installed in each country, in gigawatts. Note that the figures are cumulative: they count every panel still in operation, not only those added in a given year. The world added more than 500 gigawatts of solar in 2025 alone — more than twice all the solar capacity that existed anywhere in 2015. China alone accounts for half of the world’s cumulative total, with 1,200 gigawatts. Our principal data scientist Pablo Rosado recently updated our charts with IRENA’s July 2026 release, which adds data for 2025. In the same pass, he updated two other IRENA datasets we rely on: the cost of electricity from renewable plants, and patents in renewable energy technologies.
