"Ottawa would never need to cap oil production or kill another pipeline; the EU-aligned rulebook would do the work quietly, and no Alberta premier could oppose it, because the rules would be conditions of European market access, above the reach of any provincial influence." cnm5000.substack.com/p/defen… – at Indian Wells, CA

You have to win the game of chicken. “Support DS or the NDP will win.” The response, IMO, has to be, “Replace DS or the NDP will win.” And mean it. The faction inside the UCP most willing to risk an NDP victory will win the game of chicken.

🌹🛢️⛔️⛴️ : The Private Members Bill to remove the Northern West Coast tanker ban, was just defeated. ⚜️ As seen in the video, the separatist Bloc Quebecois voted with the NDP & Liberals to defeat the Bill. 🤑 Ironically the BQ is more than happy to leech $13+ BILLION in equalization from Western Provinces, every single year. 😡 If this doesn't make Albertans furious, I don't know what will.

PM @MarkJCarney is pitching Europe as Canada’s escape from U.S. tariffs. Now $2.8 billion in Canadian steel, aluminum and iron is set to be hit with a European carbon tariff too. CBC News reports internal documents rule out an exemption for now. 🧵👇 (1/7)

I am proud to announce that the Banff-Kananaskis @Alberta_UCP Constituency Association Board just replied to Rob Smith by voting 10-7 for a leadership review. We are up to 5/22!

Nine Thoughts on UCP President Rob Smith’s Remarkable Letter to the Membership. 1. Rob Smith acknowledges Alberta sovereigntists are indispensable to the @Alberta_UCP, among its most dedicated volunteers and organizers. Then he declares @ABDanielleSmith’s leadership beyond question. Apparently, we can knock on doors, raise money and elect federalists. We simply cannot determine the direction of the party we helped build. That is not unity. That is political subordination. 2. Albertans voted on a nonbinding referendum on a referendum. They did not vote on Danielle Smith’s leadership. The 75% who voted to remain in Canada did not grant her immunity from accountability inside her party. A referendum on Alberta’s constitutional future is not a coronation of Danielle Smith. 3. Janet Brown’s polling found 53% of intended UCP voters supported Option 2, versus 40% favouring Canada. Rob Smith is confusing the Alberta electorate with the UCP electorate. We are not some fringe on the periphery. We are the majority constituency within the party, its grassroots, volunteers and rural heartland. The party cannot treat the people who helped deliver its majorities as political guests in their own home. 4. Rob boasts that 65 constituency association boards passed motions supporting Smith. “That settles it.” Does it, Rob? Did Sixty-five boards really do so? Would be a pity if one of the sixty-five called for a review. If Smith enjoys overwhelming member support, why fear a review? The UCP is supposed to be a democratic institution, not the personal property of whoever happens to lead it. 5. Rob insists sovereigntists are welcome and needed. Danielle Smith invites those still advocating Independence to find another party. Which is it? We can volunteer, donate and vote as instructed, but must abandon any ambition to influence party direction? That is the federalist reservation. We are not going back. 6. Rob invokes the spectre of the NDP and 2015. But if preventing a Nenshi government is paramount, why alienate a substantial portion of your electoral coalition? Smith apparently believes she can repudiate sovereigntists politically while retaining them electorally. Voters aren’t party property. The danger in 2027 may be a leader whose former base stays home. Demanding that disillusioned supporters fall in line is not a strategy for winning an election. 7. Rob recites government achievements as though they settle the leadership question. They do not. Accomplishments belong to the party, its legislators, its members and Albertans. They are not Danielle Smith’s private property. The UCP is bigger than one individual. Good government and continued confidence in its leader are separate questions. 8. The UCP emerged from Alberta’s conservative movement, including the Wildrose tradition. It is not Danielle Smith’s personal political vehicle. Independence advocates have every right to join, contest nominations, elect boards, shape policy and seek the leadership. The Parti Québécois showed what an institutionalized sovereigntist movement can achieve. Alberta First must learn that lesson. We intend to participate fully in determining its future. 9. We lost the October referendum. We accept it. But more than half a million Albertans voted to begin a process toward a binding Independence referendum. That is no extinct movement. It has a rural heartland, a political network and a future. Rob says it will take ALL OF US to win in 2027. He’s right. So why marginalize the very people you need? You cannot demand our labour while dismissing our convictions. You cannot order unity into existence, or declare a leadership question settled by a referendum that never asked it. Alberta First is not going back to the federalist reservation. The real danger is leadership that no longer understands its own electorate, and an establishment that mistakes voters’ silence for consent.

There's not a political party in Canada you can vote for at the Provincial or Federal level that even has a passing interest in smaller government or lower taxes. That's the uniparty. #cdnpoli #abpoli

Danielle Smith is taking a page straight out of Lula’s playbook in Brazil, using dirty administrative tricks and last-minute bureaucratic stunts because she knows she can’t win a fair fight on the convention floor. She's now demanding a fake "loyalty oath" from UCP Board Candidates, forcing them to bow down to a non-binding opinion poll. Guess what, Dani...this is a democracy, not a dictatorship. There is absolutely NO such requirement in the official UCP Constitution or Bylaws. This desperate "Agreement and Declaration" holds ZERO weight and is legally meaningless. She went on CBC laughing and dismissing the grassroots base, but this paperwork proves the truth: SMITH IS RUNNING SCARED. She knows the delegate math for the Calgary AGM is a total disaster for her establishment team. She knows thousands of locked-and-loaded members are showing up to clean house. Since she can't beat the grassroots in an open vote, she’s trying to disqualify the competition on a paperwork technicality before the doors even open. Don't be fooled by the gaslighting. Hold the line, pack the room, and let's take our party back. 💥 #ABpolitics #UCP #StayFreeAlberta #TakeBackAlberta
ALBERTA HALLOWEEN 🎃 On Halloween week Danielle Smith is trying to unmask scary separatists in the UCP. Smith is now requiring a loyalty oath from possible UCP Board Candidates swearing that they will be bound by a non-binding opinion poll. There is NO such requirement in the Constitution or Bylaws of the UCP. As 2/3 of the provincial board can call a leadership review Smith is trying to make sure that NO scary separatists are elevated to the board. Good news is that the “Agreement and Declaration” is legally meaningless… How does one “respect and abide by” a NON BINDING opinion poll other than acknowledging as fact that it happened. SMITH IS RUNNING SCARED

5/5 Years of deficits, rising debt, and higher taxes crowded out private investment. Cheap, abundant labour plus expensive capital and regulatory risk gave firms little reason to invest in machines and technology. The result: a lower-growth path.

My greatest concern for Alberta is that, by all indications, this federal Liberal government is doubling down on those policies, with full support from the voters who put them in power.
