Maximum potential for northern lights visibility tonight: Naked-eye visible down to the the Carolinas and Oklahoma Possible to view on the horizon to Florida and Southern California. G4 storm forecast is the highest in 19 years.

EXCITING TIME! Several possibly Earth-directed CMEs. This video shows LASCO C2 images side by side with GOES X-ray light curves. Note the frames starting 02:48 UT on May 7, 05:36, 12:24, and 22:36 UT on May 8. The near-Earth space environment will be messy during May 10-13.

#Aurora: first LASCO C3 imagery shows a clear, bright and slightly asymmetric full halo CME. This one is not going to miss us either. So 4 full halo CMEs en route for a potentially wild weekend here! #solarmax

RT @Wicky_dubs_WX: Wow. I have never seen CME models this strong for an event. Two CMEs seem to combine right when they impact Earth. This…

GEOMAGNETIC STORM HEADING OUR WAY: NOAA is predicting that we will be hit by a significant geomagnetic storm Friday night into Saturday morning. It is from a coronal mass ejection from the X Flare originating in sunspot region AR3664 this morning. The green dot is Earth.

A Triple Play! Back-to-back #solarstorm direct hits chase a third storm to Earth. First impact begins midday May 10. NOAA models show the direct hits should arrive by early May 11. Expect #aurora chances well into mid-latitudes. G2+ conditions possible. Expect #GPS, #HF radio issues on Earth's nightside once the storms hit.

Two CMEs are visible in LASCO coronagraph imagery. 1st CME is associated with an M3.4 flare and is directed to the SW. This is followed by a fast, full-halo CME resulting from an X1.0 flare. Impact is expected on May 10th.

Two full halo CMEs on the front side of the disk just 6 hours apart. Thank you for your contribution to the solar wind, AR 3664.

Surprisingly SOHO has updated showing a almost full halo CME there is no way in hell that the CME associated with the X1.0 solar flare is going to miss us. That is totally Earth directed. Now it's a matter of when I will venture May 11, 2024. #Aurora #Auroraborealis #northernlights #CME #Earthdirected #spaceweather
Ar13664 delivers it's X1.0 solar flare and it appears that there is a significant associated CME. #spaceweather #CME #Earthfacing

Double Take: Not just one, but now two #solarstorms are headed for Earth. NASA & NOAA predictions agree this second storm should arrive mid-day April 14 UTC time. #Aurora possible down to mid-latitudes with this 1,2-punch. Expect #GPS & HF #radio issues on Earth's nightside.

A partly Earth-directed #solarstorm comes. NOAA predictions show glancing blow early 14 April. #Aurora photographers at high latitudes expect a show, with a small chance for sporadic views at mid-latitudes. Effects may linger through April 15 due to a trailing mini-storm.

The NOAA SWPC has released their WSA-ENLIL solar wind model for the X1.1 CME. It is expected to arrive on 25 March and they also issued a strong G3 geomagnetic storm watch for the same date.

Agreed. #Aurora photographers get ready! We finally have an Earth-directed #solarstorm worthy of solar maximum. This could easily give us G2, possibly G3-level impacts, sometime late March 25 or early March 26. Waiting for NASA and NOAA model runs to confirm.
Holy freaking moly that’s a full halo. 🀯

What a Whopper! Region 3500 on our Sun just fired a near X-class flare and launched a strong Earth-directed #solarstorm. Waiting for coronagraph imagery, but it looks like this storm could arrive by December 1. Excellent #aurora chances, possibly G3-G4 level with this one, especially considering there are at least two solar storms already on their way, ahead of this one. More details are coming.

CMEs occurred on 27 Nov. Three CMEs appear to have Earth-directed components with at least partial arrivals beginning late on 29 Nov EST (30 Nov UTC) with G1 possible, and follow-up arrivals on 30 Nov EST (1 Dec UTC) with G2 possible. Visit swpc.noaa.gov for the latest.
