Our hearts are heavy as we share the tragic passing of Jalen and Phil. Shaffer, 26, played four seasons at Wheaton in five years, while LoChirco, 24, played three seasons over four years.
Coach Scott states “As we grieve alongside their families, teammates, and all who loved them, we hold fast to the truth of the gospel. We are grateful that Christ meets us in our sorrow, and that our hope is secure even when our hearts are broken.”

Wheaton's head football coach Jesse Scott has announced the promotion of Wyatt Lee to the role of Offensive Coordinator ahead of the team's 2026 season.
Lee joined the Thunder coaching staff as a defensive assistant following his graduation from Wheaton College in 2022 and has served as the Special Teams Coordinator for the past two years.
Regarding Lee's promotion, Coach Scott says, “In making this move, the primary goal for me is to hire somebody who loves Wheaton football with a deep and abiding passion, is loyal to it, and is committed to the program. I want someone that has the know-how and want-to to contribute to the next phase of the evolution of our offense. Wyatt’s experience in trying to stop offenses, both as a player and assistant coach, gives him a unique viewpoint in developing our offense.”
A full story with further details will be published on the Wheaton Athletics website.

The best I watched this year, live or on stream, was Riley Howard of Wheaton. Absolute thumper.
Bonus points for having the most fullback looking headshot imaginable, and for being from a town called "Slaughter." Very fullback of him.

There are eight teams left, and Wheaton is one of them!
The Thunder football team rolls past the DePauw Tigers by a score of 49-24 in today's NCAA Division III Third Round playoff game to seal its place in the quarterfinal round. The Thunder have advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the first time since 2019 and the fifth occasion in program history. Additionally, Wheaton has won three postseason games in a single season for just the second time (2008).
The Thunder will face UW-River Falls in next Saturday's Quarterfinal contest, and the site of that matchup will be announced by the NCAA tomorrow afternoon.
Wheaton now owns a season record of 11-2, marking the program's first 11-win season since 2019. The Thunder have won nine consecutive games.
Wheaton became the first team to put up over 100 total rushing yards against DePauw since November 2023, finishing the game with 190 yards on the ground. Matt Crider rushed for 120 and two touchdowns, while Malachi Jones picked up 43 yards on just five carries. Mark Forcucci tallied 293 passing yards, 21 rush yards, and four touchdown throws. Seth Kortenhoeven led Wheaton with 106 receiving yards today and scored once, while Whit Jewett caught two touchdown passes and Riley Howard found the end zone one time.
Caleb Coburn led all defenders with ten total tackles and made seven solo stops, including two sacks, while Maison Haas earned a game-best nine individual tackles and broke up two passes. Colin Moore snagged two interceptions this afternoon, taking his season total to eight, which is tied for the most picks in all of Division III. Zeke Harris matched Coburn on seven individual tackles and a pair of sacks, while Rex Kroger posted a game-high 2.5 tackles for loss. Peter Johanik earned 1.5 tackles for loss and forced a fumble, which was returned for a touchdown by Chandler Bryant.
Mateo Jesch was a perfect 7-7 on his extra point attempts today, and Josiah Smith averaged 46 yards per punt and landed two kicks inside the DePauw 20-yard line, including a 62-yard blast.
