If you have a Gmail account, you need to read this.
Google’s AI is now rifling through your inbox emails and attachments, bank statements, tax docs, medical letters, the whole stack. It was enabled by default, and that quiet rollout is now facing a class-action lawsuit.
Here are 5 steps to turn it off because the kill switch is buried in two different spots:
5. Move Sensitive Emails
Disabling Gmail’s “smart” extras is a decent start, but if you want real privacy, don’t rely on Gmail at all use a separate inbox.
For anything medical, legal, or money-related, open a free Proton Mail account. It’s end-to-end encrypted and isn’t feeding your messages into AI scanning.
Let Gmail handle the low-stakes stuff: newsletters, promos, and everyday chatter.

4. Delete Gemini History
If you've used Gemini before, your chats may be saved, and some could be reviewed by humans.
Go to myactivity.google.com/produc… → Turn off Gemini Apps Activity → Delete Activity → All Time.
This removes your past Gemini chat history and stops future conversations from being saved.
3. Your Phone
The settings don't always sync between devices, so check the Gmail app separately.
Gmail app → Menu (☰) → Settings → Select your account → Turn off "Smart features and personalization" → Confirm.
2. The Hidden Switch
Disabling the first toggle won’t cut it most people quit right there.
Stay on that same settings page: Google Workspace smart features → Manage Workspace smart feature settings → switch off both checkboxes → Save.
It only works when both are off.
1. The Main Switch
This is the option Google puts front and center but it’s not your only route.
Gmail (Desktop):
⚙️ Settings → See all settings → Smart features and personalization → Turn off “Smart features in Gmail, Chat, and Meet” → Save Changes.
In late 2025, Google quietly flipped the switch on new AI tools across Gmail, Chat, and Meet for a lot of accounts.
To generate summaries and smart suggestions, these tools can scan your emails, chats, and even attached files.
Google insists your mail isn’t used to train Gemini, but plenty of people argue they were never plainly asked or gave a clear yes before the features went live.
And if you don’t disable them yourself, the AI may continue combing through your inbox to power those extras.

Stanford is quietly giving away its most valuable education for free.
Not a brochure. Not a webinar. Not a “first lesson free, then $2,000.”
The full AI curriculum that produced the engineers behind Google, Tesla, and OpenAI lecture videos, assignments, solutions, and exams published online for anyone. The CS229 Machine Learning course that has 3 million+ enrollments. Code in Place a free, live, instructor-led programming course with volunteer teachers in sections of 10 students. Stanford Engineering Everywhere with complete engineering courses. Free medical courses with actual certificates and CME credits. Open-source AI tools used by researchers worldwide. An entrepreneurship video library with 3,000+ talks from founders who built billion-dollar companies. And a YouTube channel with thousands of lectures from one of the most elite universities on earth.
Stanford says more than 1.4 million people around the world access its virtual instruction each year with much of the online learning available for free.
A self-taught AI engineer who used Stanford’s free curriculum to land a $180K job told me: “Stanford is the #1 computer science school in the nation. It costs $65,000/year to attend. And it gives away its core computer science curriculum for free online. The same lectures. The same problem sets. The same exams. I studied CS229 on YouTube, completed the assignments from the course website, and used the same notes Andrew Ng’s students use. I never applied to Stanford. I never paid Stanford. Stanford taught me anyway.”

Your smart TV has been lying to you since the day you plugged it in.
Every TV ships in “Vivid” mode a picture preset designed to look eye-catching on a showroom floor under fluorescent lights next to 50 other TVs. The colors are cranked to unnatural saturation. The contrast is blown out. The brightness is maxed. And the motion smoothing is on creating the “soap opera effect” that makes every movie look like it was filmed on a home camcorder instead of a $200 million camera rig.
You’ve been watching every film, every show, every sporting event, and every YouTube video through a picture preset designed to win a 3-second glance in Best Buy. Not to look accurate. Not to look cinematic. Not to look the way the director intended. To look bright enough to catch a shopper’s eye from 30 feet away in a fluorescent-lit warehouse.
One setting change switching to Filmmaker Mode, Cinema, or Movie mode fixes every frame of everything you watch. The change takes 10 seconds.
A home theater installer who’s calibrated over 500 TVs in homes, studios, and commercial spaces told his friend something after seeing his living room TV for the first time that changed how his friend watched television permanently.
“Every TV I walk into is in showroom mode. Every single one. The owner spent $800, $1,200, sometimes $2,000 on a display and has been watching movies with fake colors, artificial contrast, and motion smoothing that makes cinema look like a soap opera for years. They think the TV looks great because it’s bright and vivid. It doesn’t look great. It looks wrong. The 10-second picture mode switch is the single biggest improvement available and it’s 1 of 11 settings most smart TV owners have never touched. The TV they bought has a Filmmaker Mode for accurate picture, Bluetooth for private headphone listening, HDMI-CEC for one-remote control of every device, free live TV channels they’ve never opened, a privacy setting that stops the TV from tracking everything they watch, and 6 other features they’ve been paying for and never using.”
He showed them 11 smart TV features that transform the screen from “showroom display I watch Netflix on” into the home theater system the manufacturer designed it to be.
Here’s every hidden smart TV feature most owners miss 🧵
