Brendan Falk sold Fig to AWS in 2023, with hundreds of thousands of weekly active developers on the product.

Since then, Cursor and Cognition have built huge businesses on that same developer audience, and Claude Code started on the command line, right where Fig lived. He's confident selling was the right call at the time, but hindsight is 20/20.

At every internship he had, @BrendanFalk found the smartest person in the room and asked them the same question: why don't you just leave and start a company?
He still can't fathom the answer. Brendan founded Fig, sold it to AWS in 2023, and now runs @usehercules. He says starting companies is stressful, "like eating glass," and still the most fun thing he's ever done.

I keep getting pitched “software factories” that are basically coding agents.
Guys. That’s a code factory.
I don’t care how many agents you have. Did your company get smarter? Did sales get better? Did finance make a better decision? Did someone build something that never would have made the engineering queue?
If not, you may just have a very expensive way to make more stuff.
