Neglected this account for a few years. Fixing that. I’m building Kineticist and This Week in Pinball, writing about pinball and pop culture, and doing more fractional marketing work. More of that here, plus music, movies and probably some Boston sports.

free comms advice: if you are being interviewed in any capacity- press, podcast, internal all hands, fireside chat, anything - and at the end the person interviewing you says - is there anything else we should cover - what did i forget to ask you - what am i not smart enough to ask you - do you have anything further to add do NOT respond with "nah i think we covered it all." this is an easy layup. take it, don't throw the shot away. say the thing again

becomes another channel to maintain, alongside all the other channels. there will never again be a primary channel.
a big take I've been noodling on and I’m ready to call: the newsletter is dead @every's core business is a newsletter with 120k+ subscribers so I don't say this lightly. persistent agents mean i dont look at my inbox with dots (GrokBots, Muse, etc) I almost never look at my inbox. if I do it's for a specific thing I need to reply to. i think in a year I'll be doing all of my email this way - fully filtered by my dot / something like it. this is not new: it's a continuation of the trend of having a “newsletter” folder in Gmail, but 10x more filtered. what it means It doesn’t mean people won't read newsletters, but it does mean that getting a person’s email is no longer the guarantee that you have a relationship with them that it used to. luckily, with persistent agents (and AI coding more generally) there is an entirely new playing field to build relationships with readers. instead of fighting to get an email address, publishers and creators will need to make sure we're installed in our reader's agent harness of choice, so that they get directly notified when we do something new. we're already starting to experiment with this @every with our MCP and the frontier alerts we send users of our slack agent (every.to/agent) it's also more affordable than ever for publishers and creators to build their own platform ecosystem: you can have your own website, app etc. and you can use AI to publish 100x more high-quality stuff to your community—so we may see a world where many creators themselves are running their own little empires that have their own apps, feeds etc. to be clear: It'll take a while before this actually happens, but the idea of getting someone's email creating a direct relationship with them is over. here's a set of predictions I made 3 years ago about AI and media that panned out pretty well: every.to/chain-of-thought/we…

after a long spell using claude code only in terminal interfaces, I started trying to use the desktop app more and it's way better. much easier to bop between computers and keep threads live

"narrative fairy" lol
my theory is that startups want brand people but don’t want to admit they need brand people, so they invent increasingly abstract job titles. meanwhile, the people they’re looking for aren’t applying to be a “narrative fairy”

Okay so I took this in a few different directions with a different game. Mostly, I pointed Opus at stuff in our database + pieces I knew were out there. It's 3D Eight Ball Deluxe. Explode it, map the wiring, look at individual parts. It's endless fun for pinball fans. pinballanatomy.com/
Let me show you something extremely cool. 1. Opus 5.5 + CRHQ rebuilt the Pinball machine I was playing in high school. One shot. 2. Then, it built an entire Tribute site, with playable game, 3D Model of the pinball machine, and entire story of how it rebuilt it. It's INSANE! JunkyardPinball.com 3. Then... it built this video. Even more INSANE. It gave me teleprompter to read the script and film myself. It made JunkyardPinball.com/studio so that I can just press "record all" and create 5GB of B-Roll footage on my computer. I uploaded it all and that's it. It constructed this exact video one shot. What the fuck.

thesis is I can get most of what I need via @resend + just better integration with my website. don’t need their web builder, community, ad network or subscription features.

with respect to how hard things are or how long it takes to get them done, these days it’s good to rethink your priors at least once a quarter.

Buy or build, building just takes longer
I’m getting a bit tired of hearing the word“distribution”. People on X act like it’s this magical thing forged over centuries. Guess what, you can buy distribution. I can buy ads. I can buy a forum related to the problem space. I can sponsor a YouTube channel. That’s all distribution. What people on X mean when they say “distribution” is “earned media”. Yes that takes more time to build up. But it’s not the only type of distribution.

does anyone run @eve agents in a discord setup instead of slack?

there are a few service providers in my niche that offer free API access, and with the explosion in vibe coding their free APIs are getting swamped. all of them are jumping through hoops for various solutions and solves when they should simply start charging for access.

Infinite AI music sounds terrible if you’re a music fan. I can see use cases for it like waiting rooms, ambient work music, etc.

I'm almost at the point where I can run most of my newsletter business out of the terminal
