Great players never stop learning!
They watch the best players, study other sports, and look for ideas that can transfer into Gaelic football. Sometimes the next big coaching insight comes from outside our own game.
Observe. Learn. Adapt. Apply.
COULD SOME OUTFIELD PLAYERS BE A PART-TIME GOALKEEPERS?
If a goal could potentially be worth 4 points next season , goalkeeping may become an even more important part of the game.
So why not give outfield players some basic goalkeeping training or information?
SWING. DOUBLE SWING. CREATE THE GAP.
The key to an effective swing attack isn’t just moving the ball — it’s moving the defence.
Swing them one way… then hurt them the other.
Modern Gaelic football = move the defence, create the space, attack the gap.
The Peanut Punch - Borrowed from the NFL!
A small skill that can make a big difference!
Timing • Accuracy • Awareness
Modern Gaelic football is about mastering the details, disrupting possession and winning the ball back when it matters.
Do you practice it ?
BEFORE THE KICK-OUT
What goes through a goalkeeper’s mind as he watches..waits..and decides when to take the kick-out?
What can I see?
Where is the space?
Who is moving?
Can I create an advantage?
What is the best option — now?
The kick-out starts before the ball is kicked.
Thanks for the invite lads 🙌

KICK TO HURT THE DEFENCE
Don’t kick just because the option is there.
Kick because it creates an advantage.
3 Different choices of kicks here.
1. No bounce delivery
2. One bounce delivery
3. Loads of bounces delivery
Do you coach the last kick ?
THE BREAK WINNERS
Watch the winners of the breaking ball
Some breaks are planned
Some are lucky
But the break winners are always ready
Anticipation
Bravery
Readiness
Positioning
Reaction
You don’t always control where the ball breaks
but you can control how ready you are
What we see shapes our decisions.
Scan the space. Scan the movement. Then decide — what pass, what weight, collect it or keep it moving?
Good players don’t just execute the pass… they read the picture in front of them & their teammates.

Brake. Evade. Finish.
Put the brakes on as the near-hand tackle arrives. Make the defender overcommit, create the space and get the shot away.
Simple. Effective. Hard to defend.
Have to try this 😂
This has to be the wildest goalkeeper training drill I’ve ever seen xitter.cf/Arlinho78/status/20873…
Planned or Not.
Stay tuned in on the kickout!
The ball doesn’t always go exactly where you expect — but sometimes that little bit of luck can work in your favour.
Be alert. Read the flight or bounce. React.
You can’t control the luck… but you can be ready to avail of it.
IN & OUT PASSING IN ATTACK.
So simple. So effective. So hard to stop.
Play in. Move it out. Shift the defence. Then play forward. Get the defenders facing the goal not the play.
Move the ball. Move the block. Create the gap.
When 7 beats 11… stop counting players and start watching movement or lack off
• Fast ball carry
• Width - out of defenders eyeline
• Speed onto the pass
• Early catch
• Watch & wait ….quickly
• Present the pass
