Seeing skeuomorphism come back is like seeing the 80s get canned with the emergence of grunge rock.
Everything falls in and out of style. And back in again.
Anyone having this much fun building for the Z Fold 8? [checking… checking…] Nope.
Samsung caught wind that Apple was making a passport sized foldable and pre-empted iPhone Duo with their Z Fold 8.
It's worth remembering Samsung had been making foldable phones for about 7 years and never once considered the passport form factor as an option to explore. Just one of those odd coincidences they made one a few months before Apple. Weird, right?
In the 2.5 months that the Z Fold was on the market before the Duo I didn't see a single person inspired enough by the Z Fold to create a fun piece of software for it. Not one.
We can argue all day about the practically and longevity of a lot of the apps coming out for the Duo, but you can't argue that they're not inspired or fun.
Something to really think about and ask yourself:
What is it about a product or platform that makes people inspired enough to spend hours/weeks/months on a piece of software exclusively for that platform?

The Duoman one got me. Lighter and beer apps were pure joy back then, and the hinge brings that feeling back.
I went the same way with a little leather wallet that opens with the fold. Building it felt like 2008 again 🤩
Would a large language model ever think of creating something this silly?
I think not.

If you're not having fun being a designer, what the hell are you doing it for?
Why did concept cars get so serious?
Where's the fun? The passion? The sex?
I'm not sure if this is brutalist, but it's not far off.
Regular folks — I believe the term is “normies” — figuring out how to design & build generic digital products with AI tools
aka monkeys with guns
only bad things can happen
empowerment is not on that list
Hey, what exactly are we doing now?
Like exactly?

Most people I've observed who use the word ironic in a sentence are using it incorrectly. What they're describing 99.9% of the time are coincidences.
Increasingly over the last ~10 years, most of the “podcasts” I see are not —from a technical definition—podcasts.
They're talk shows. You have a talk show. Just call it a talk show.
There's no shame in having minimal effort, freeform, rambling talk show loosely defined around a witty or not-witty title where you recall how events in your childhood defined the person you are today and how it's important to have stick-to-it-tiveness in life and goals are important and stuff about conviction and something something success and perseverance and you were at the lowest point in your life and that's when you saw the light and also stoicism.
(sidenote: Can comedians go back to honing their craft and creating great stand-up specials instead of interviewing prominent politicians on their talk shows with zero sense of responsibility as defined by Stan Lee in Spiderman?)
If you truly want a podcast you need to publish a series of media files, typically in MP3 format, through an RSS feed. Publishing in this open format allows your feed to be syndicated by any app or platform.
Shows exclusive to a platform like Spotify or YouTube are simply and only that: shows.
What's wrong with having a show?
(sidenote: most people use “air quotes” incorrectly too. They're used to express sarcasm, irony, skepticism, and doubt)
