A reminder that the cost of completely abolishing tuition fees is less than the yearly cost of the triple lock of pensions. Worth remembering when ministers insist that young people must pay even more for the education their parents and grandparents got for free.

People don’t focus on the design of UK fees system because it isn’t a political problem yet. But that will change over time as more graduates enter the job market and face the burden of facing insane marginal tax rates for 40 yrs. A big political problem in the waiting.
Don’t focus on tuition fees, focus on the 37% marginal rate paid by graduates earning £27k and the 57% rate paid by those earning £50k (plus interest).

So brave to do this *after* getting a fixed £93,000 a year income for four years after standing as a Labour candidate.

Rosie Duffield stayed in the Labour Party when it was being gripped by an antisemitism scandal and investigated by the equalities watchdog, but Keir Starmer’s free suits are a step too far?

So all the fuss about Starmer having a private box turns out to be fake news. Arsenal are letting him sit in the directors box (which at the Emirates is massive) among other invited guests. You can’t buy a seat in the directors box. It’s invite only. I thought so from Aug 17 pic.

Full take here. It'll be slow, frustrating and probably rather disappointing. There'll be no great moment of pro-European triumph. But we're moving in the right direction and the headwinds blow in our direction inews.co.uk/opinion/we-are-h…

👇🎯 the way some in the Starmer government are already struggling to adapt to basic structural realities in relations between the EU and neighbouring states indicates how illusions over the UK's position in Westminster and Whitehall reach far beyond the Conservatives

The Daily Mail has a rant today on youth mobility schemes which make them sound the devil's work, which is silly, but more importantly, cakeism still rules in the view we can ignore EU asks but have our own, and the government has to fix that or won't deliver what it wants.

Very poor decision. This is a popular measure. Even Reform voters like it! Many young voters affected will not have voted in 2016 Ref and overwhelmingly want to Rejoin. It's also terrible negotiating to do this [akin to Theresa May's historic blunder with the Red Lines].

Good - but not good enough to bring the tipping-point pressure we really need. We need a stable 65% rejoin vs 35% stay out. Current polling is very stable and the gap is increasing, but we need to keep building the case to widen that gap further.
If there was a referendum on returning to the EU, Britain would vote to rejoin the EU by 59% to 41% In favour of joining the EU: 48% Against joining the EU: 33% Would not vote: 8% Don’t know: 11% Headline vote intention In favour of joining the EU: 59% Against joining the EU: 41% yougov.co.uk/politics/articl…

Simply unhinged. The poster was to make people laugh, not intimidate them. It was also making a serious point: that Truss was responsible for economic catastrophe and should not be normalised or taken seriously. The abject pomposity of her response makes their argument for them.
What happened last night was not funny. Far-left activists disrupted the event, which then had to be stopped for security reasons. This is done to intimidate people and suppress free speech. I won't stand for it. Would we see the same reaction if the activists were far-right?
