Absolutely right. In the words of Tim Ritter of @AlmostHeretical, "The Bible is a story about power," and Jesus makes it clear that power plays are not consistent with the kingdom of God. Using the Bible to prop up hierarchy is theological malpractice.
Equality and mutuality are foundational implications of the gospel. I believe that all New Testament ethical commands, rightly interpreted, were about moving people toward those values. Using the Bible to perpetuate inequality and hierarchy, IMO, is anti-gospel.

@breckenridgemtn & @VailResorts The Epic Rewards model is broken for families with kids. I purchased an Epic Pass for myself, expecting a 20% discount on my son’s ski lessons, not realizing he had to have his own pass. Customer Service: “You’ll be paying full price.”

Kids in lessons that don’t need an Epic Pass shouldn’t be required to have one. Does @VailResorts intend to push the costs out of reach for families? The policy is unclear and dramatically affects families, with costs for a kid in lessons tripling the cost for experienced skiers.

Much anti-poverty work is helping people navigate systems they need for survival, but working within systems is only effective to the point where the systems fail. Learning to do things the “right” way is how to survive, not how to live,

because power will always be in the hands of the system’s creators, not the participant. Work the system in the present and fight for a better future, because the system works exactly how it’s designed to disentitle, not empower. (this is not just about poverty)

Unfortunately, yes, and it’s more deeply ingrained than I imagined. @kkdumez describes in Jesus and John Wayne a white Christian patriarchy that is far from extinct and has tendrils throughout American culture. I wrongly assumed the reach was limited to evangelicalism.
Is it that Harris is a woman? Is the misogyny that deep in America?

The system is broken when the rules are different for those in power than those without power.

BUT hopefully this will have some effect in the party. Doubtful. So the irony is: if you’re a convicted felon you can’t *VOTE* for president, but if you’re a convicted felon you can *BE* the president. (2/2)

I worked for a narcissistic pastor for 16 years, and this tracks deeply, especially contrasting with my COVID experience attending a church that prioritized people over ego. – at Missouri, USA
“During Covid my pastor said we should not be afraid to orphan our kids so we could be in church in person.” She lays out the *REAL* reasons so many pastors threw a fit about in-person services.

It’s my experience that the ecclesial spaces most committed to a theology of human depravity are often most resistant to name actual sins of abusive leadership, abusive systems, misogyny, and systemic racism. However it does serve to reinforce guilt-and-shame based loyalty. – at Grand Rapids, MI
