berenice abbott is one of my greatest resonances in the history of photography, in so many ways
so fascinated by this idea I've seen on here that journals are authentic and ratings aren't. a journal is usually private and a rating typically public, but why does a change in audience necessitate inauthenticity?
and if it's due to 'performativity', journals can be performed too, (for an idealised self, imagined future readers), why is it the audience that makes it inauthentic?
Every debate about getting kids (boys) to read forgets non-fiction! Most of what I read from 8-12 was non-fiction and the curiosity it sparked about the world was much more influential on me and my reading habits than Gangsta Granny or whatever
there are plenty of books for boys to read, it's lazy to constantly parrot publishing industry trends. Kids won't read if their parents don't, but it's easier to write inflammatory pieces on crotchety Bitch Librarians + editors.
Young boys are being discouraged from getting into reading—and it’s because more books are missing one key element, @sophiah_n reports: theatlantic.com/culture/2026…

Not quoting to give that popular fascist commentator more visibility, but I have to say I am concerned over how much good will seemingly progressive people are willing to give a truly repugnant vermin because he's funny. He is, you don't have to boost him by saying it.
i unironically hold this belief
My take on trans women in sports is that no one should play sports. Don't let them distract you from the bigger picture. #BanSports
