📰 In a USA TODAY Network Op-Ed, CSA Co-Chairs James Tisch and Harold Hamm highlight the newly-formed, bipartisan Secure America Caucus [co-chaired by Republican Rep. Julie Fedorchak (@RepFedorchak) of North Dakota and Democratic Rep. Josh Gottheimer (@RepJoshG) of New Jersey] and examine the growing connection between American energy production, national security, and U.S. foreign policy. They argue that a country that can produce more of its own energy and supply its allies when markets are disrupted has greater freedom to act abroad and greater protection from economic shocks at home. That is the premise behind the bipartisan Secure America Caucus. In an era of deep political divisions, bringing together lawmakers from different parties and regions who recognize the connection between American natural resources, the role of states, and energy production and national security is a central objective of the Caucus and vital to our national interests. 🔗 Read the full op-ed: councilforsecureamerica.org/…

The Constitution Pipeline in the news this week is the poster child for why we need permit reform. At 125 miles, its 1/10 the length of other controversial pipelines like Keystone or Dakota. What it does is link Marcellus natural gas production in PA to existing pipeline networks already serving markets from Massachusetts to Maine. The stated capacity is enough gas to meet the daily needs of 3 million homes in the Northeast. 125 miles for 3 million homes? That's a pretty fair trade off. For three decades (1979-2011) governments killed a major oil or gas pipeline only about once every ten years But from 2016 to 2021 one pipeline project a year in the NE cancelled - primarily using the same playbook. Deny permits, drag out approvals, litigate and wait them out. We've been trying to build the Constitution pipeline since 2012 - almost 15 years. This week, the decision was made that reliable energy in Northeast is in the nation's economic and national security interest. Permit reform is in our national interest as well. The public knows that too. That's why it supports permit reform.

(Council for a Secure America - CSA)

🇸🇾 Syria: NEW @councilsecure poll Support for President al-Sharaa remains strong and stable. In the absence of active, public 🇺🇸 U.S. engagement, Syrians still view the U.S. role positively, though support has declined, along with support for a Syria-Israel security arrangement. Around two-thirds of Syrians continue to view Hezbollah’s involvement in Syria negatively. Openness to eventual peace with Israel remains stable. 🔗 councilforsecureamerica.org/…

🇱🇧 Lebanon: NEW @councilsecure poll Despite increased conflict between 🇮🇱 Israel and 🟨Hezbollah since January, negative perceptions of Hezbollah among the Lebanese public have continued to rise. As 🇺🇸 U.S.-mediated talks between 🇱🇧 Lebanon and 🇮🇱 Israel have continued, more Lebanese now view peace between the two countries as likely. That shift coincides with a significant drop in opposition to normalization with Israel. Strong pluralities also believe normalization would help Lebanon’s economy. 🔗 councilforsecureamerica.org/…
